  1. Tamsin:

I did exactly as you stated, twice. The result is shown in the attachment. It appears to be working since the brick texture is mapped to the DTM slope, but as you can see, the mapping is elevated and a distorted stone texture is shwon underneath. What must I do to fix this ?

  2. Ray:

in the image, the stone sidewalk is supposed to go over the top of the berm, but it doesn't. It is clearly not showing up on the top of the berm, and the other portions are distorted as if the image is at the same elevation as the DTM so they 'fight' over which textrue to show ... the green or the gray.

Since others seems to get this to work, I'll keep trying .....

  3. I've never been able to generate texture beds like the manual shows. I attached a typical example of a sidewalk going over a small berm. The texture seems to be at the same elevation as the DTM, and it will not change in the obj info palette. I can't move it using the 3D 'move' command.

Can anyone give me a clue ? Does the texture bed function actually work ?

  4. thanks for the responses. Maybe this isn't as simple as I thought it was (or should be). If the VW software team is reading this .... I think the suggestion to set the top/plan view at a define-able height is a great idea.

MichaelK: isn't the 'separate layer' idea cumbersome if you're building a 3D rendering model that is also the 2D floor plan? If you move/change the wall on one layer, then you have to move the same wall on the 'clerestory' layer.

  5. When one window is above the floor plan cut plane, how do you stop it from showing in the wall ? In other words ... look at the attached file "window 1" It shows my lower level window in place, and the upper level window nearby, ready to be dragged into the wall. When I drag it down into the wall, it looks like the file "window 2" which is unsatisfactory. I'm sure this is a simple problem for someone who knows how to handle it, but I don't know how. I can not change the 2D component to be invisible, because in other places I want it to show on the wall.

Help please .. thanks .... (using VW 13)

  6. On my 27" iMac i7 I had a 3D building file. I made a copy and opened it in VW14 and saved it. For the VW14 file, when attempting to render an interior view using either OpenGL or Final RW, it crashes the program. I tried it several times and set the render settings to low quality. Same result. The exact same view on the VW13 file renders just fine.

Any suggestions on how to fix this ?

  7. I don't use worksheets often, and have this simple question ..... I'm trying to get a sum of all the occupants in spaces, and the database row keeps showing the total number of records, (that is, the number of spaces) instead of the total number of occupants. I've tried and tried to use the "sum" function, to no avail. I'm obviously missing something simple. Please help.

Oddly, i've done this worksheet on a previous project, and I duplicate the criteria and function syntax, but it still doesn't give me the 'sum'.

OK ... I really do appreciate your advice .... thanks a lot. I am mostly satisfied with this now .... it is 'good enough' (I believe the saying goes .... "perfect is the enemy of 'good enough')

There must be a software programming issue in this somewhere... I'm hoping someone at Nemetsheck will pick this up and fix it.

  9. Mar:

thanks for the help, but I'm still puzzled. The segment you indicated clearly looks like individual line segments, but using the OIP and cycling through the vertexes, it shows they are all 2 degree nurbs curve vertexes. If they were lines, there would be a vertex at each corner point. I don't know what you mean by "a proper curve" .

The geometry of this curve came from importing a dwg file. Is it possible there could be some hidden formatting or other issue left over from the translation ?

  10. Kevin:

I'm rendering in a design layer and a sheet layer .. same result. I tried the Custom Renderworks option, that had no affect (even though it had been set to "low" and i reset it to 'high") i sure would like to get the result as you posted in your image ... now I know it is possible ....

  11. Thanks for the help .... I've tried the sheet dpi low resolution ... it has no affect on the imported photo. Your suggestion to export to jpeg then convert it back works fairly well .... but it seems like the software wizzards could figure an easier way to solve this problem.

  12. thanks for the reply ... confirming my suspicions. I guess if I don't have Cinema 4D I'm out of luck. That's disappointing.

I'm surprised this isn't a constant complaint ... it seems like a basic feature that is missing. Does everyone else just put up with the "segment" affect, or does everyone else just design things without curves ?

  13. when trying to export a drawing that uses a high res pdf aerial photo, the resultant file size is always too big to email (over 28 Meg). Can anyone tell me how to export a pdf file to a smaller size ? I've tried all the settings in the pdf export dialog box, setting the resolution down to 10 dpi and it does not affect the resultant export file.

Oddly, I tried to change the photo file by opening it in GIMP, then saving it as a jpeg. The jpeg shows up fine in Windows explorer, but when I import it into VW 2013, it imports as a gray box with an 'x' (when using jpeg compression) or a uniformly black box (when using png compression). Any advice ?

  14. when I make an extrude along path (for instance, a road way curb/gutter) and the path is a curved NURBS or other curved line, the extrude shows up as a series of small straight line segments connected to form a curve. Is there a good way to make it look more curved without the straight segments and resultant corner points ?

I've tried setting the VW preferences to show high resolution for 3D, but that doesn't cure it (but it makes it better than low resolution).

PS: i still can't figure out how to attach an image to this forum.
