  1. Title says it all. I have 2015 SP2 installed and I have been trying to update to SP3 but it constantly tells me while trying to install that everything is up to date. However, I can start up VW and go to "about" and it tells me (along with the splash screen) that it is SP2. Is there a way I can manually install all the updates or do I have to go through the main installer program? I need to know because the copy I have at work is SP3 and when I try to work on a file at home, which is SP2, it crashes when updating a view port. thanks in advance
  2. That makes sense. After I did it I saw that I could change it in the data tab and maybe that is how it will have to be. Its not the prefered way, but it is still loads better than what I was doing before
  3. Seems simple enough, right? I am creating labels for my utility drawings. I work in the exhibit industry so I have symbols calling out where a specific voltage/amp needs to be placed. I also have a legend on the right that calls out the total quantities of each type that I draw in. Currently I am manually changing it every time, on every drawing. 400+ jobs a year gets somewhat tedious. So I have created symbols for my legend that I can place into the drawing that says "120v 5amp | (qty)". I create the symbol, then I create a record for the labels, which I have 8 of for the 120v list. In the record, I have the perameters as follows "P_120v 5amp" and have it set to "text". After I get all of that set up and I link the quantity text to the record, I save the library file where I have it all placed and proceed to put it into a drawing. When I do, I double click on the label symbol and it asks if I want to edit the symbol instead of having a pop up like I do with the title block. Is there a step that I am missing? I thought that I had everything covered since I followed how I did the record format for the title block and that works perfect every time. I know that I could probably get it to work if I put it into the standard title block file, but that would defeat the purpose since I have to roll this out to 4 other people once its complete. If someone wants a file to mess with, let me know and I will upload one with the record and the label.
  4. I am trying to setup Vectorworks at work to have some of the same functionality that our AutoCAD user has when it comes to detail drawings and CNC file creation. Currently, our AutoCAD user came up with a custom tool bar that has preset material thicknesses in it. What I mean by that is if I want to build a cabinet that has a 3/4" MDF top and a base made from 3/4" plywood, that I click on an icon and it will draw (similar to how the wall tool works) material that was preset to a specified thickness. After that, I would then be able to subtract out solids or whatever I needed to do to it. Currently in AutoCAD we have an assortment of materials that we use and have average thicknesses taken for each type that is in our toolbar. I would like to do this is Vectorworks because since I do most of my drawings in it already, I would be able to avoid switching back and forth between programs and it would allow me to speed myself up greatly. Does it make sense what I am trying to do? I am not sure if I would have to write a script in order to accomplish this, or somehow duplicate the wall tool to what I need.
  5. So I know how to create a report to tell me how many symbols I have in a particular job, but what I would like to know is how can I generate the same thing and place it into the drawing as a report/table/schedule? I went through a bunch of options last night and couldn't get what I was shooting for. Can anyone help with this? In case it would help, I work in the trade show industry and we have symbols set up for all sorts of rental items and client based properties that all have their own material or inventory number. If I could get something that as a minimum, tells me how many of a particular symbol are in the drawing, it would not only help me as the person drawing up a job, but also all the project managers (myself included as one) when it comes to counting up everything for a parts list.
  6. Mike_m_oz, Thanks for that, it worked the easiest. In a way, I feel somewhat stupid for not realizing that.
  7. First time posting in this forum. I have been coming here for a while and have found many useful things within the forum but can't seem to find what I am currently looking for. What I want to know is how, after making a specific symbol, have Vectorworks tell me how many I have in a given layout. This past Friday I was working on an electrical drawing (I work in the trade show industry) that has specific electrical power requirements drawn out. An example would be 120v 5amp and 208v 3ph 20amp and so forth. The drawing that I did on Friday has at least 100 or more different electrical drops that I had to go and count manually to make a legend for. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and would make my job easier and faster considering that over the next 2 months, I have about 50 layouts to do, along with all sorts of other service drawings and design layouts.
