  1. Um, no. I said that the Industry series makes it more convenient to do things. The plug-in doors and windows that come with VW Architect are inappropriate to our buildings and to the models as presentation items; the plug-ins are of a more residential nature. We make our own windows and doors as required, fully suited to our standards for 2D drawings, and our own 3D symbol components suited to the level of detail in the particular model. Everything's done manually.

This may seem more work than having 'pre-manufactured' libraries, if you will, but it's much less work than the customization / revision that would be necessary to adapt the plug-ins to our work.

Sorry I don't have any more specific information on the modules.

  2. Is there any particular reason why the perspective view outline was used as the basis on which VW exports images? If you happen to be in the wrong layer, VW's export may not function, unless the outline is set the same for all layers.

Second, of what function is the 'resolution' field if you're specifying how many pixels you want in the output image?

Last, though it will be sent to bugsubmit, you can get around a maximum width or height of 15 000 pixels if you set the lesser dimension to a higher value, up to 15 000. e.g.: my pic is 21600x14400. Entering 21600 for width gets reset to 15000, height results in 8900. Entering the 14400 as a height will result in a width of 21600. I haven't actually counted all the pixels to make sure the greater-than-15000 value carried through tongue.gif" border="0 but I'm assuming it worked.

  3. I have no 'Plug-In' Support in the Plug-in Folder. I recently tried to install the 9.5.0 'Full Update'; I happened to be doing it while in OS10.1.1. Up until that point, 852, 901, 950b5, and 950b7 worked fine. After installation of 950 Final, I deleted 950b5 and 901. I tried to run 950, but it said that it was a demo. Re-installing 901 doesn't help because the Serial Numbers... dialog doesn't keep the VW seral numbers I enter. The Renderworks number is maintained, but every time I go back in to modify the serial numbers for VW, it's blank. Same goes for 950. What gives?

  4. I had the same problem. Unless I'm mistaken, Tim, it doesn't matter WHAT type of file, what dimensions, what settings, etc. you use, once you click on the menu item it's as though no command was ever issued: no dialogs, no alerts. I upgraded the QuickTime Authoring Extension (to 5.0.2) and everything was fixed.

  5. Presentation graphics, schematics currently, in fact. I do quite a bit of colour tweaking to get the colours right, and I maintain the same mindset about using 'Byclass' as I would when drafting. If I force ALL colours, I don't think the 'nearest colour' shift is an issue, but doing that would mean that if I decide to change the colour of all the circulation spaces to another index in the palette, I'd need to do so on every instance of a circulation space. Hence, using 'Byclass'. Another option of mind would be to tweak the palette ONLY, with all colours forced...

  6. Is there a way to collapse -- or 'roll up' -- the palettes? The feature present under OS9 doesn't appear to have been carried through to OSX.

Generally speaking, windows under OS9 no longer have a 'roll up' feature (unless I'm out to lunch), but I don't see how difficult it would be to program a different window class.

  7. Confusion, perhaps. Mm. Floating around, many ideas are, yes.

The original post was referring to OS9. Ergo, no dock. He likely meant Windows-style docking, but may have also been referring to palette snapping. My eyes bleed only a little getting the palettes to stick to each other.

  8. Even with the grid constraints off, I've found that some things still snap. If the above-mentioned suggestions don't help, try setting a snap distance that is bigger than the area on which you're working.

e.g. Your building's 100m long, set the grid snap distance to 150m or so.

  9. Import/ and Export Image File... were doing nothing. The problem turned out to be the recent Quicktime upgrade. I installed only what I thought were crucial components. After installing several other components, RenderWorks appears to work fine.

However, I was still getting the 'One or more operations was aborted due to lack of memory. Increase partition size.' Mem (on the mac) was set to 60M min. 128M pref, the model isn't complex, and even with all RW extras turned off, I had the same message. I purged the other two layers since they contained items I wasn't rendering, and all seems to work okay now.

  10. I'm having some troubles with RW and am wondering if anyone else has come across them...

Running VW 9.0.1 imports a VW8 pict either raw or as a picture, just fine.Running VW 9.5.0b7 imports a VW8 pict just fine, also. However, VW 9.0.1 exports a pict that imports into 9 as vectors only, despite the fact that the model was rendered completely.

  11. OOH, lemme answer this one!Zoom line thickness is constrained by the resolution of the monitor, 72dpi or something. Good paper plots are around 600 dpi. VW's 100% zoom scale is, therefore, a crude representation of lineweight.

For 99% of the time, I'm zoomed far enough out that the line thicknesses don't show up. Plan and sectional details may be a different scenario, but for most other work, it's MUCH easier to distinguish lineweight by colour, so that one need not zoom way in to see how thick it is.
