  1. i'm super disappointed with VW 2016, which i recently upgraded to and started using. thinking about dusting off one of my old workstations and going back to VW 2011, which worked virtually problem free for me. right now i'm particularly frustrated with the tools mentioned above: polyline in bezier vertex mode and the freehand tool, both of which i use constantly in my workflow, and never had an issue with in older versions of VW. i use a wacom intuos pen tablet when i draw, which i've used for about the last 5 years....wondering if it's an actual VW issue or a problem with how it interacts with my tablet. with the polyline tool in bezier vertex mode, to create a curve you click once at the start point, click again at the second point, and double click at the third point to complete the curve. the double click at the end changes my curve into something way different that i intend! it seems to be adding in an additional point microscopically close to the end point that throws off the whole curve by adding another vertex. i have NEVER had this happen in past VW versions. anyone seen this before? also, the freehand tool.....what happened there?? even if i set the smoothing to "very high" i initially get awful, ugly jagged lines that smooth out to something thats equally ugly and not very smooth. i use these tools constantly in my workflow....i'm desperate for either a fix or confirmation that i indeed need to revert back to an older verssion....help.
  2. thanks for testing this. i think i know where the problem comes from. if you try to put a chamfer, say 1", on the corners of the newly created polyline, the radius is changed. it's slight, but if you take a radial dimension, the arc is no longer what it should be. i guess the workaround is to manually create the chamfers instead of using the chamfer tool.
  3. has anyone else had problems with accuracy using circles and arcs, or polylines created from arcs? i am working on some drawings of a room with a half-round footprint. the half-round wall is composed of vertical concrete panels with concave faces (in other words, it's not faceted.) to create the plan view of the panels i created a circle, offset it by 6", drew in the perpendicular break lines from the center point of the circles, and then trimmed away the extra lines to create my concave panel. i left a copy of the original perimeter circles in place to see if the panel lines up, and it never does! the radius of the panel is always different than that of the original circle. i tried the same thing using lines and arcs, and as soon as i compose the elements into a single polyline, the radius changes. any idea of what could be causing this? i need to create very accurate drawings for CNC cutting, and this is not satisfactory. anyone have any advice?
  4. it is a fresh install of 2011 with the operating system that shipped with the computer. i called nemetschek yesterday, and they confirmed that there are numerous known issues with VW 2011 on OS Lion. this may be a dumb question, but is it necessary to install previous service packs? i just went straight to SP5 after installing VW.
  5. hello, i recently upgraded from my macbook pro to an iMac running OS 10.7 (lion). i'm just wondering if any other VW 2011 users out there are having problems running the program on lion. i had no problems at all on my macbook pro, so the only conclusion i can some to is that it has something to do with the operating system. here's a couple examples: when i draw a rectangle and create a viewport, i now have to go in and manually turn off all other layers (other than the one the object is drawn on), or else in my viewport i see all objects drawn on all layers. this gets kind of tedious when i have a file with a lot of layers. also, i can't just draw my rectangle and change the pen to none before creating the viewport. if i do that (which is how i've always done it) i can't edit the crop on my sheet layer. when i go to edit the crop, the rectangle is no longer there and there's just an infinite size page that can't be edited. i'm really starting to regret upgrading operating systems. ______ imac os 10.7.4 20 G memory 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
  6. i am just beginning to use the 3D component of vectorworks, so bear with me if lots of questions with "obvious" answers appear on this board! i modeled some simple extrusions for steel pieces, and then created viewports to present the pieces on my sheet layer in different projections. i played around with changing the rendering mode of the viewports, and in doing so realized i had forgotten to assign the objects to the correct class (which represents the desired line weight). after reassigning the objects from the "none" class to the appropriate class (thereby changing the line weight), i can no longer get the viewports to render in anything other than wireframe, even when the drop down menu says "hidden line" etc. certainly one should be able to change line weights/classes of 3d objects, right? any ideas on why this is affecting my ability to render properly? thank you. _________ macbook pro 4GB 2.66 intel core vectorworks 2011
  7. i am trying to figure out how to align text with the faces of a simple 3D object. the object is a bent piece of steel, and i would like to put some notes on the different faces. it looks like one is supposed to be able to align text with the working plane, just as you would do to dimension different parts of the object, but so far i have not been able to get this to work. does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!
  8. i think it is a buglette. i've double checked that all preferences are set to what they should be and i'm certain i'm not in wireframe. quite irritating!
  9. i am editing groups, not symbols. i am familiar with that option when editing symbols, but these are just simple groups of lines + polygons that i've created myself, not symbols.

  11. i'm not sure, but i don't think so. for one thing, these are purely 2D drawings, and i'm going about editing groups the same way i've always done it...by double clicking.
  12. i am having a problem that used to just occur every once in a while but now occurs every time i try to edit a group. when i double click to edit the group, or when i right click a group and select edit, the objects composing the group disappear. the only way i can see what i am editing is by turning on the highlight feature. it's driving me crazy. i am left with no choice but to ungroup objects, edit them, and then regroup. any ideas on what could be causing this? thanks. 13. guess what....problem solved! seems like it has something to do with sketchup. i came across another discussion board where someone was having a similar problem. another person suggested throwing out a file from users--->library--->colors. i did that and now i am able to edit gradients. if you are interested in reading the thread yourself, here's a link: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=68211f5ba8f4ee3a&hl=en thank you so much for trying to solve this for me. i've been frustrated by it for months!
  14. also, i tried to edit the gradients you sent me - CRASH.
  15. thanks for taking a look at the file - i suspected you wouldn't have a problem with it. prior to purchasing vw 2011 i was still using vw12 on this exact computer, and i had no problems with editing or creating custom gradients. the problem has only come up since i've installed vw 2011. i'm not sure about the video card - i have absolutely no problems with any of my other programs including photoshop, illustrator and sketchup. perhaps it is a quicktime problem, but i don't have the slightest clue how to figure that one out.
  16. ok, here is a sample file. this is what i'm limited to doing with gradients! as i stated before, when i try to edit this gradient through the resource browser, vw crashes right after the color picker loads and i tried to click on a new color. could it be some kind of conflict with the color pickers? vw tech support has had me do everything from resetting my preferences file up to completely uninstalling and reinstalling vw. nothing has solved the problem!
  17. it basically happens anytime i try to create a custom gradient, whether within an existing file or in a brand new file. i am stuck using only the default gradients. basically my custom gradients can only be white ---> black, just as the gradient looks right when you create a new resource. i've created a file for you to look at - can you tell me how to upload it to this forum? thanks, sarah forrest
  18. i am desperately in need of a solution to the problem i'm having, and yes i have contacted tech support about it. unfortunately nothing they have suggested has worked. the problem is that vw 2011 crashes when i try to edit a gradient through the resource browser. the editing window opens, but as soon as i click on the colored square below the slider and the color picker opens up, the program crashes. i am able to apply a default gradient to an object and change the style and offsets through the attributes palette, but i can never add or change a color or create a custom gradient. i'm close to the end of my rope with this, as my job depends on being able to use this tool in my drawings. has anyone else experienced this problem, or does anyone have any possible solutions? thanks, sarah forrest _________________________________ MacBook Pro, 2.66GHz, 4 GB ram OS 10.5.8 VW 2011, SP4
