  1. I'm trying to replicate Benson's approach by drawing in all tiles.

I've created a symbol, but it appears "locked" to the plane it was created in.

The rectangle is the symbol and I want to duplicate array around the circle. Under the duplicate array command, the centre on next click is disabled in the current view.

My trouble seems to be how the symbol is created and edited. Once placed, the symbol appears to be uneditable in certain views. I created the symbol in a front view but am unable to create the circular array in a side view.

  2. I drew the full 360? poly with 4" faces, moved it into place, then traced the needed quarter with the 2d polyline tool and extruded that. Deleted the big polygon.

Ahh, thats clever. here I am trying to circular duplicate array the polygons, then extrude, then duplicate.

Could i also create the polygon, extrude it, and then "draw" in the tiles on the extrusion, rather than creating lots of copies?

I'm not sure how you would select the working plane though.

  3. Hi Benson, spent most of the morning trying to figure out the steps you took to create the spa detail, I haven't got very far with the cove. But I'm determined to conquer it...

Another approach yields very specific tile config.

Create arrays (with grout spaces) and groups of the tiles applied to the surfaces.

So you create the tiled group and apply to a nurbs surface as a texture?

If the lower cove is tiled with flat tiles, the base form can be an extruded, faceted poly.

I've searched through the manuals for faceted poly command - nothing! Can you let me know how you achieved the cove?

  4. BTW I use the classes to control visuals control extensively and rely heavily on Class overrides in VP's. Sounds like this workaround, er, I mean, workflow is still an accepted methodology.

I find classes always getting in the way. You will need to seriously consider other software if you want more efficient functionality in this area.

  5. Acrobat for mac shows fine.

    Preview shows this jumbled mess.

Any idea's on how to fix? I want to leave Preview as my default.

It's a paid open type font I've used.

  6. Yep i could - but what we need is a graphical overide ability to be able to change the pen weight on the fly.

I'm looking for similar functionality to the "filled region" tool in Revit. Similar capability doesn't exist in VW by the look of it.

  7. An example:

Drawing a roof sheet in section, the top of the rectangle would be in elevation the bottom would be in section.

I want to investigate whether I could get the graphical control to do this without drawing object over object.

  8. Man, these boards are full of Canadians (and Aussies) !!!

You can also draw a rectangle at the correct size, then go to:

AEC>>Objects from Polyline, then choose wall, and your offset type (whether inside, outside or centre relative to the rectangle's line)

You will need to have your rectangle selected for this method.

You also need VW Architect for this method also.

  9. Thanks, both workarounds do the job.

So if working with rectangles (easier for creating the shape at the correct size) then you could select the rectangle Modify>Convert>Covert to Polygons and then use the Hide or Show Edges to do the dirty work.

    An unnecessary extra step though...

  10. So I have a rectangle with a basic hatch fill.

I want three of the four lines to be invisible and the fourth thick (0.35)

How do I do this whilst maintaining the integrity of the shape?

  11. only shortcoming with the imac is the gloss screen.

I bought one only to return it because I have a mirrored wardrobe behind my desk which reflects the light from the window in front of my desk. The glare was too distracting for me. I wasn't going to renovate my office either to accommodate it - I'm not that much of a fanboy.

Give us an anti glare option and USB 3 and surely one would be sitting on my desk!!

  12. If you have sensible email handling policies, avoid dodgy sites like the plague and are conscious of basic security measures then a Windows PC should give you very little trouble.

Macs are less prone to viruses at the moment but that could all change rather quickly.

What I do like macs for:

    their asthetics

they are quiet (at least the iMac is anyway)

PC makers are now (finally) addressing these two shortcomings which should result in better quality products. What is interesting is that Apple has been the driving force behind this change.

  13. Archicad's interface for mac is appalling, although a closer competitor to Revit than VW.

Sorry Kieron don't agree with you there.....at least not to the degree that it is not a very good alternative to Revit!

Not sure if my post was clear but I meant to say that Archicad's interface IMO is appaliing, but also in the same sentence I state Archicad IS a closer competitor to Revit than VW. My post was referring to the user interface only.
