  1. I cannot for the life of me create a window to look like this with the window tool.

I am keen to have a real representation and a scheduled object at the same time.

I am sick and tired of having to settle for something that does not either look right or have to have further additions added outside the parameters of the object which if it needs to be updated negates part of the use of having objects.

One day, I will rant and be mightily embarrassed and proved wrong as this (of these) things can be done.

Bring it on, prove me wrong!

  2. It would be very good to see how HorstM does this. If not too much a tutorial with screen shots would be most beneficial for an example piece.

I see VW work very well for presentation drawings, this is one of the few places I have had to work with VW in a technical capacity and I often have a fear. But thats all another issue.

  3. You won't get this in AutoCAD. I have converted projects from R12 to 2012 with no issue in appliance. Sometimes referencing.

If there are core changes (as there are in many CAD packages) then why there is not a very little side development tool I do not know.

I guess it is a long shot, but do you have access to different upgrades (of VW) and be abel to run it through each one?

Saying that, we have had trouble between 2009 - 2011 and 2011 -2012.

ARGHH, VW is really not for the professional.

Sorry, had enough of VW this week, there is very rarely a good day.

  4. $899 on the US Mac App Store (about ?520)

?1,250 + VAT for the electronic download version on the autodesk website.

Where is the sense in that? I only need to use it for a couple of months too!

Thats not good at all. I got mine for the US price but in ?'s direct from Autodesk right on the release of 2012. We also paid between 4-5k for the full autodesk suite at work, thats through a trader that seems to have room either side. I do not understand how these companies retail.

If you only need it for two months, you can get a 30 day free trail and if you have another work station do the same again. Or rent a work station. I am not sure if this is still done, but I used to do this often about 8 years back.

  5. What options do you have for the referencing - Absolute Path or relative path?

I do not think this should matter, but might help formulate a reply.

I have always suffered this on different drawings, some are fine and some are not. I have just put it down to VW inept abilities. So I am also interested in this myself.

  6. I do, simply because working on a white screen on a large monitor gives me a head ache.

I do not buy that perhaps it is just what you are used to

Strange that you take time to reply with such a comment. Lets be constructive shall we?

I answer and give information on how to work on a black screen if you so desire and simply express the real problem I do unofrunaly have. It is not something I enjoy suffering from and know only a small number of others that do.

  7. Makes VW UI look and feel archaic by comparison.

If you like 8 colours of lines on a black background. Like in the eighties.

I used AutoCAD for 10 years before moving to VW and what a revelation is was, filled colours, white screen. I realise you can set ACAD background to white too, but nobody does because every file you receive has lots of yellow and green lines.

The only nice thing is the dark palettes.

Not sure when you stopped working on Acad, but you have been able to do VW style for a very long time, even since before .stb (plot) files came into existence. But with .stb plot files, it is miles better than VW if you are talking simply in terms of shades, block colours, opacity etc

How can anyone can work on a black background?

Thats what the real professionals do.... kidding, I do, simply because working on a white screen on a large monitor gives me a head ache.

You can set personal preferences and also map colours, so if you work on a white background and do not want to see yellow, it automatically changes them. Their is a mapping tool in VW, but it is not very well thought out yet.

  8. You can make your own dimension styles and handle it within that.

This is one style we have if the dimensions is unlikely to fit within the lines.

If you look at the second picture you will see the Edit Custom Dimension Standard dialogue box

On the far LHS you see the 1.59, this is the text distance above the base line. Then the third line 3.17 is the height of your dimension lines above the base line. Working with these figures will get the desired result you want.

  9. We are running this. I am seeing no real difference between the Mac and PC version (full Acad).

We got ours online from a UK source. Out IT man is away. When he returns (if not too late for you) I will see where we got it from (if indeed I am right).

Meanwhile look at this list http://www.autodesk.co.uk/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=452932&id=17263185

It is for the full version. However, if you contact them, they will price LT no a UK tariff. We went with the Autodesk Suite as we got almost the entire Autodesk range of products incl 3D Studio Max that in its own right is nearly the price of the whole bundle.

The only downside is you have one license. So you can only run one product at a time. But if you can afford the uplift and see what you get for your money (when you price separately) you will benefit from a massive range of products.

Good luck, will be interesting to know your thoughts, get onto the Autodesk forums as well, with the same name. I am more out of this, but may see you around.

  10. What if you have your flat types in file ONE.

Reference file ONE into your master plan and make up the overall site configuration

Then refer your schedule to original file ONE and write in that Flat Type A = so many No, so to x(times) is accordinly?

It is a pain workaround, but from my experience, I think you are right that scheduling does not look in blocks. I will ask our Guru when they are back in the office.

Interested to know if the above works though.

  11. Is this simply to save money?

It might be a non goer, often an upgrade means you no longer hold the license to the old version, it is in a sense transferred across.

Save and get the latest version or some resellers do offer staggered payments (for other CAD software, not sure about VW)

  12. Reporting back, it selects only opacity with that percentage. Typically, I have had a user that has decided it is best to set a different percentage to almost every blinking shade aspect they wanted.

To begin with, I was lucky to pick up a bulk of them, but since still needed to fish through.

Be good to be able to say, select any opacity object, irrelevant of percentage.
