  1. Interesting, I am not getting this on the Mac at work (Safari web browser or Firefox), but if able will try on windows at home with my AVG doing a pre scan.

Nice to see this being picked up and covertly worked on with no feedback information or acknowledgement to your worthwhile concern for the greater good of everyone.

    Any action site moderators/controllers/coders?

  2. Haha, sometimes ranting is a good thing.

It is not about moderation or control and if anyone feels there needs to be a stop to the 'ranting' then it must have got a bit past being a generic moan and needless to say we would get suitably shut down here.

I love a good rant. Since using VW I do not suffer from low blood pressure, it is what the Dr's call, typical. Finally, to be normal. Thanks VW.

  3. Not heard of this, post the link and I will use as well.

Likelyhood is, nothing wrong with it.

Id like to think we post issues perhaps once or less a month, not several a week.

I am fighting for care from VW and it is us the end users that need to push as it comes across they do not come down to enquire at this end user level.

I look forward to your link so i can utilise it myself. I posted the above as I had just recently discovered (been pointed to) it myself and thought I'd share.

IS this not about sharing, improving, answering, helping, support?.?

  4. Fair enough, I have just go the impression we do not always get things answered or struggle through. It is not all meant to be about wish lists but actual use and support from the top.

There is nothing wrong with this forum and it is a great starter platform. I have posted elsewhere about other forums (other CAD apps) are structured better, have a massive wealth of information, have a good involvement from the CAD company.

I am interested in VW people taking a hands on approach and being active with us on such places as this.

Certainly did not meant to poopoo this place. I visit often, help if I possibly think I can.

  5. Sending Error Reports

Another plea for all on both Windows and Mac's to look here

    http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler#Mac

Use the tool. When you get a crash report send it to VW through their own site here

    http://www.nemetschek.com/en/home/contact.html

Also asking where you send the DirectX Diagnostics information as you (unless you save as an RTF and cut and paste) will not be able to give them that.

I think we need to be much more pro active in getting Nemetschek to care for us the end user!

    Cheers,

    Q

  6. Can I please encourage everyone to give Nemetschek feed back through their website form here.

Please leave whatever feedback/requests you feel would be of use. I have asked for care towards their end users and a prescnse here on this forum both for us and their R&D

    http://www.nemetschek.com/en/home/contact.html

I don't want to be a frustrated and struggling VW user. And on the man occasions I am and do, I would like a reliable avenue to gain information and know it is supported by the company themselves.

    Cheers.

  7. There is the ability to draw these from the Dims/Notes menu (see attached, Third down on the right.

There is then the ability to change the appliance of the angle, size etc in the object properties when drawn (see attached).

You can change this further after the event in the main object browser under the Shape tab (see attached).

Now, for me, as the solid fill does not work very well, I chart by tracing the item and making the trace line 0 weight and set to behind. Usually on a class of its own that makes sense (for our office MASK seems to work)

I can then get the desired effect on Stairs, detail cut lines etc etc.

Does that help, or have I misunderstood your question?

    Q

  8. I have a drawing at a tilt. So I have a group at the same angle.

However, when I stretch this entity it will not stretch all parts equally. BUT if I have it on the 0deg horizontally/vertically then it does.

Pic - Screen Shot 2012-05-09 at 09.43.50 is the item stretched when not orated.

Pic - Screen Shot 2012-05-09 at 09.44.12 is the item stretched when at the same orientation as the rest of the drawing.

Is this a glitch, bug or typically poor handling by VW?

It is taking me much longer simply to place notional wardrobes.

Please tell me I am doing something wrong?

    Q

  9. I am looking at the whole object when trimming.

    The shape is closed.

Since moving onto VW2011 I do not get this issues as often, but occasionally I do.

Any advance on the suggestions above?

Also, sometimes when this does happen, it does not help that I cannot undo.

Thanks for looking and coming back, I would not put it past myself to look over such things.

    .

  10. ok managed to replicate

Picture 1wall before trim. the thin green line to the right I am trimming to. The wall is a hatched polyline

Picture 2 first trim makes no sense, as it is a polyline it should have taken the line all the way around yet it did not (sometimes it will, sometimes not on this drawing)

I then go to trim selecting the line above

Picture 3 i select that line and this is what I get. Have no idea how, why, what?. bears no relation to trim line and selection

Picture 4 I undo yet the wall where the trim did not work is still present (and seemingly highlighted)

Picture 5 I undo again to have my complete wall and the still faulty trim. Still seemingly highlighted.

If i delete this entity ALL of the wall deletes!

Oh thank you VW for making working so much easier, reliable, and constant!

  11. Stan, thanks, never thought about the mapping! Missed that.

    I will certainly use that.

Not hawing used it since v2008 (now on v2011) it used to be that if the drawing (you were bring it into) had a different classes it would not map it all had to be same to same e.g.

    a=1

    b=2

    c=3

    but the file only had

b and c then it would not map as it was still looking for a=1

    Cheers.

  12. Unknown to me my classes have been overridden to all be the same line weight.

How can i get another drawing with the same named layers with their right line weights, import them and choose to override the existing classes?

This is driving me insane and would take some considerable time to do manually.

I have also noticed fills have been added and some colour proerties to the classes have changed as well.

    Cheers

  13. I do not always get the same treatment when I try and trim/cut back to something?

I have issues where it will take EVERYTHING away, or if the item is hatched, then th hatch can move into an unboarded zone or become distorted.

Further more on the hatch, on occasion, I have undone these action yet the hatch does not undo but the trimmed/cut line does.

How the deck does that work?

It is not constant. I have asked IT for the ability to record without luck. Will post screen shots when it next happens.

  14. It is an indexing system used in UK construction. This is the first place I have not seen it used in the library in house. I used to use this system until 4 years back.

    http://www.tech-ls.com/cisfb.htm

    http://www.tech-ls.com/Products/Alpha/codes.htm

I find it better than NBS as sometimes it is hard to put certain things under a sole NBS heading. However, I understand from NBS themselves there is due to be a massive overhaul and change in system for the ever pending NBS cloud system.

    Exciting times.

    Q.

In the UK, for instance, there is one being created by the NBS (which is owned by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) via its RIBA Enterprises subsidiary):

    http://www.nationalbimlibrary.com/

    Thanks for the link

    Q.

  15. You are right and thus I fear it will not happen.

Perhaps a sub forum here offering up objects categorised in accordance with CISFBS system or similar construction based coding.

I say this, but typically with my rather restrictive ability, I would be more leaching rather then being able to offer anything up.

Be good to get this place as a leading source of such things, the more visitors might mean a little revenue for the hoisters/moderators.

    .

  16. Where can we get such things for VW?

VW company need to invest in real R&D and start to offer such libraries of THIER own doing.

    http://seek.autodesk.com/

Giving you such things as -

    http://seek.autodesk.com/product/latest/agg/pellacorporation/Pella-Corporation/2462038

I can never find any cad stuff for VW. Any conversation of dwg details gives a (be polite) rather bad looking result.

  17. I work a lot in central London. Rarely when we are abel to replace windows they must be the same style and look of what is existing. Hence needing to get a drawn representation right.

I saw the option in the schedule, but I need the drawn part also. It must be in good details for when it is referenced.

Perhaps limitations in VW (I say that as i am not an experienced user). BUt seeing such detail in other CAD packages when detailing BIM information, so much more can be shown and more importantly, if such plugins do not exist you can create your own with its specific parameters.

I am massively interested in BIM and have expired many large projects on Revit

Things like this http://continuingeducation.construction.com/article.php?L=192&C=622 see line picture. If my little laptop can take things like this on and take into account all other parties information and rotate then VW needs to catch up (can't render at any decent speed it seems (My laptop)).

I have just learnt in the office, what I need to do is place the window as usual for the scheduling. Then I draw and create my details window, have a fill and place it on top. When if anything changes, we all know there are two window classes that need to be taken into account.

    Oh bumsie!

  18. Not only could they zip them, but also they can further split the zip files so you download and need all 4 of 4 say.

That said, it sounded like you do not always need all the information when you mention other areas etc.

It sounds like a bullet point sit down/call needs to be had between you. Passing of information is always a delicate thing that everyone wants to make sure is right and usable.

  19. Jon, are you both working on VW? Or are either of you on a different platform? Whatever the platforms, what versions are being used?

Are you able (is the work sensitive) to either upload the file or perhaps post screen shots. Looking for what is says is broken, what it looks like when it is open and also what shows in the Resource Browser in terms of References, Layers and perhaps any class information?
