in the end it's a measured levels' difference (as for 'z').
i don't intend to back viewport capabilities, though, but the real x, y or z distance we need for construction plans is on a plane, not somehow in 3d.

bill, i know these velux skylights, but i couldn't find a suitable one.
i generally hardly find anything in the standard libraries (like currently an oil or a gas fired furnace, f.i.).
it's high time to learn hybrid symbols creation

i've just stumbled upon a nemetschek solution for a skylight opening in a roof:
at least the splayed opening works, without losing the roof 'intelligence'. unfortunately it winds up with an unrealistic 0 cm roof thickness at the top and bottom edges.
maybe the second roof object could help (and also with components).
nobody said it was easy

thanks guys for your suggestions.
i think i'll stick to the solid object instead of a roof (in spite of all troubles - f.i. the wall purlin is no more cutting the roof object). i have to give it a new skin yet.
as for the rafters and purlins i find the framing tool with its settings very useful. i've just modified their dimensions and spacing, but i have them all in place in 3d, and it's a mere top plan manipulation.

i know peter's post is already a few years ago, but how can i cut a hole in a roof for a velux window when the cutting shape has to be some kind of a pyramid with side walls vertical?
i modelled cutting solids, but inevitably the roof loses its 'intelligence' and top skin feature.
is there a good solution for this?

to better illustrate the case:
1. the rendered wall with the window
2. wireframe appearance
3. the floor plan with a wall component overlapping the window frame.
the overlapping simply doesn't display in the renderings. does anybody know how to turn it on?

p.s. btw: how can i move the marker away from the window? -> edit: ok, i got it - what have i the handle for?

how can i have the overlapping insulation part from above operations visible as a renderable solid in a side view/perspectives? all i see in any rendering is the window with its outline, the overlapped insulation part is transparent in 3d and renderings (practically non-existent), turning the architectural opening into a rough opening.
is there any setting for this?

ok, the x-y coords are now fixed. but i have no idea for the z-coordination fix...

hi,
i've set my project with stories and layers to the aimed levels, but i've forgotten to check the project origin. after i've made the site model it turns out the terrain z-coordinates are some 6 km above the real ones (and they display incorrectly). the x and y coordinates are way out of control either.
is it possible to bring the whole lot to the project origin somehow?

thanks, dworks. the most valuable information is for me the part about the middle point being the oip set height, which i missed. and that's why the wall heights adjusting seemed so illogical, because they all referred to those points.

hi,is there a way to trim or generally edit walls in 3d without losing the wall attributes (hatching a.s.o.)?
1. i try to trim the wall under the roof (it works with the 'fit walls to roof' command) AND under the horizontal purlin serving as the attic slab construction. to be frank, i don't know how to make it both work. the 'reshape' command in the side view doesn't behave like with the planar objects.
2. i tried also trimming the wall in the side view with a solid element using the 'subtract solids' command, but it converts the wall itself to a solid, too, which is not what i want.

Either create an extra (roof)object (in it's own class so you can hide it in VPs etc) where the horizontal purlin is in the roof layer, then the 'Fit Walls to Roof command will trim there too.

Double click the wall and use the polyline edit options to create handles at the top of the wall to create peaks that can be dragged to the correct height. i.e.. manually edit the wall top.
that was exactly what i wanted to do in the first place, but i don't know how to use the handles like that. the middle one on the diagonal behaves very strangely. the side view displays the same configuration.

it is a myth that architecture allows inaccuracy. as soon as windows, doors, glass and steel elements come into the concrete structure every millimeter counts.
bim is to build accurate models.
