  1. Interesting reading - I came here looking to see what is going on with my computer - when I try to change the class of an object, it can take a couple of minutes for the cursor to scroll down through the classes. Also, publishing drawings to pdf, I get the coloured circle for several seconds after pressing each button..... and this is something that has changed in the last month - before that it was all working fine. My work is all simple single houses - typically two storied. The file I was working on yesterday when this was happening is 55MB.... is that normal? Anyone have anything like this happen?
  2. No, that isn't checked in my preferences, but I have worked out what was going on - but not exactly why it was happening.... I'll try to explain in case this makes any sense to anyone. I was using a hatched rectangle to indicate a beam - in a viewport annotation. In the navigation palette, the beams class was turned off. In the viewport settings, the beams class was turned on. When I have turned the beams class on in the navigation palette, the beams now drag duplicate just as I would expect instead of duplicating directly over the original. So I know what is happening - but wouldn't have a clue why this is what happened. Out of curiosity, can anyone explain why?
  3. I regularly use the option key duplication - hold down the key till the plus sign appears then drag to where I want the duplicated option to go. For some reason - unknown to me, the objects are now duplicating directly on top of the original instead of where I have dragged them to. Even stranger - I have just been checking if it is every object, and it is only hatched rectangles that are doing this - text blocks and lines are fine. (I am annotating a viewport) Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? It has always worked for me so I am a bit baffled as to what has changed. Thanks Sharon
  4. I am having trouble with a couple of viewports, I have the floor plans made into a viewport on my site plan, and when I am looking at the site plan, the floor plans keep disappearing when I zoom, and I can see them flash when I zoom in or out but they are not staying visible. I have checked all the class settings to make sure there is nothing odd going on there, and all the correct classes are turned on. This is happening on the design layer that my site plan is drawn on, and also on the sheet layer of the site plan. This is the way I have always done the site plans and I have never had this issue before. Has anyone else come across this sort of thing happening and have any ideas of what to do about it? Thanks Sharon
  5. Thanks - you were right, and it has solved my problem. I knew it would be something simple. Also, your comment about running VW 2015 has prompted me to update my signature - I am running 2018 now, so thanks for the nudge there too! S
  6. I have come across a minor but annoying issue - I am trying to stretch lines, click on line, blue box appears at ends, stretch to length I want - all good. But, select two lines, and no blue boxes appear and I cannot stretch them. This is a new thing for me, and I am wondering if there is some setting that I have inadvertently turned off which is preventing me from doing this? It is very tedious having to stretch several lines individually instead of all at once. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks Sharon
  7. Thanks for your ideas. I tried copy and pasting the objects (lines in the OIP) into a new bank document - same behaviour. I have rebooted and restarted vector works, no difference. I have noticed that when I first go to the layer that the objects are on, and when I first pasted them into the blank document, they are not visible until I zoom out. Looks like I am going for your last resort idea, with the additional problem that I can't actually snap to the objects. It is all very puzzling, and frustrating. Thanks anyway Sharon
  8. I have something strange going on in a drawing.... I have cut a section through a 3d house, and then converted to lines so that I can manipulate it how I want it for my cross section drawings. All is fine, except for the stairs - I can see the lines, but I can only select them by using Marquee mode, not by selecting the lines individually. It is almost like the lines aren't actually there if I try to select them by clicking on them. When I select them using Marquee mode I can see that they are all in the same class (none) and that they are in the screen plane, as is the rest of the drawing. Can anyone offer me any clues as to what is going on and how I can fix it?
  9. Just like that! Thanks so much for your help - I now have a masonry sill. I have never really thought about where the window is set in terms of the face of the wall - I think with the level of detail I need this has never really come up. I will have to have a think about that. Thanks again Sharon
  10. Ok, I have taken the wall and window and put them in a new file, and when I turn on the sill - the 3D sill class does not appear, and the sill doesn't appear. It is showing in plan view, but not elevation. I must be missing something here - surely it should be simple. Maybe someone can see what I have missed. Window Sill.vwx
  11. I had already checked that I hadn't flip the window, so that one is not it. I did notice in settings that there is a WD-3D sills class, but that doesn't appear in my Navigation Palette at all. Is there somewhere where I haven't selected something?
  12. I am trying to add a brick sill to my windows, and the sill setting seems to be what I am after - only when I select to show the wall sill in 3D, nothing happens. I am sure to be missing something very simple, as is usually the case- can anyone suggest what it might be? Thanks Sharon
  13. I have been drawing residential housing using a 3D model, setting up the building using Layers to achieve the different storey heights. What I am wondering is what is the difference between what I am doing, and using the Stories option - should I learn how to use Stories and change, and if so why? As you can tell I am completely ignorant about what the Stories function is for....

    3D gutter

Wow! Thanks everyone - who knew there would be so many ways to do something this straightforward!

    3D gutter

I have extruded a gutter shape and wish to join two pieces together at right angles to each other - like filleting two lines in 2D. I have tried the add/subtract/intersect solids from in the model menu, but they all remove parts I want to retain. What I want to end up with is an L shape, with the gutter joining nicely in the corner- each part should end up with a 45° angle at the end. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong - it should be so simple! Cheers Sharon
  16. Further to my initial issue, I have noticed something odd in my files, sometimes I am getting the door dashed as I want it to be, but I noticed that the left hand doors were looking correct, but the right hand doors were missing the actual door when I turned WD-ceiling on and WD-2D off. If I turn them into left hand doors and flip them, they show correctly. Also I am interested to know what you (Alan) meant when you referred to something being wrong in the Windoor file... where/what is this? I have attached an updated file to show what is going on with my doors and the flipping I mentioned above.
  17. Ah, thanks for that- learn something new every day. Hopefully this explains what I am trying to do. Sharon
  18. Ok, I have never tried to add a VW file so I will see how it goes. I have a new file, with an unstyled wall and a line drawing of what I want it to look like. All I have changed in settings is the linetype for the RCP to a dashed line, and it has made my door invisible when I turn WD-2D off and WD-Ceiling on. well... I have not been able to figure out how to add a file here.. I will keep trying
  19. I am pretty sure that is where I am going wrong - I just can't work out how it should be. I can get the arc to show as a dashed line but not the door itself, and yet I know that is how I used to have it showing on a reflected ceiling plan. all 2D components of the doors are set to wd-2d except for the RCP wall lines which are set to wd-ceiling. I believe this is the default? If I change the linetype of the RCPdoors to dashed then I get the door swing arc chowing dashed, but the door itself is invisible when I have Wd-2d turned off and WD-ceiling on. Have changed the door to be WD-ceiling, but then I end up with he door solid again.
  20. I use to have my Windoor door lines set how I wanted - showing solid on a normal plan and then dashed door and door arcs on a reflected ceiling plan. Clearly I have changed something along the way and although I have the door arcs showing dashed, the lines representing the actual doors disappear from the plan when I turn off WD-2D and turn on WD-Ceiling. Can anyone give me any clues as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks Sharon
  21. I've found what I was looking for - the draw windoor command, and although I'm having a few issues making it work properly, I have managed to get what I need. There was a small arrow beside the Windoor command, but I couldn't get to the command from there, so had to go into the workspace editor and move it so I could see it on my palette. pretty sure I shouldn't have had to do this but I could work out what else to do. What was the correct solution to accessing that command?
  22. Hi On the previous ouse I was drawing I had to do a corner window, and did this no problem... I need to do it again on the next job, but whatever command I used either isn't there any more or I have gone completely mad - which is always possible when working with computers. Can anyone tell me what command I would have used, and how on earth it can just disappear without me changing the workspace? I have Windoor but can't seem to figure out if I used it for that window or not. Sharon
  23. Hi I have a two level house, and have put the same basic texture (vertical lines to resemble vertical weatherboards) on walls on both levels. However, the vertical lines don't line up. Can anyone tell me what to change or select or deselect so that they will line up? Thanks Sharon
  24. When I want to have a viewport that shows only part of what is drawn, I use a rectangle or circle and use that as the viewport boundary. Since I upgraded to VW2015, sometimes it will work fine, and it will ask me if I want to use the object as the boundary and other times, even though I have it selected, the program ignores that and makes the viewport show everything on that design layer. What am I doing wrong?
  25. Thanks again - I have got this working and it will save me a lot of time. My next puzzle with this however, is why are the lines on my walls (weatherboard hatch) not meeting at the corners? I can't see any settings on the walls that are indicating a different origin of the hatch, but something must be wrong. Any clues anyone?
