  1. I am meeting with a number of my coworkers to discus improvements specific to 3D printing and Vectorworks.

I am unable to give many details, but here is a sample of what I am proposing we include natively:

    1) Support for scaled export to STL, so that a user could print their model at the design layer scale and have that be the real scale of the resulting 3D print. Currently STLs all export at 1:1 and scaling has to be handled manually afterwards.

    2) 3D "Page" area. This would allow the user to show a 3D page area, similar to the clip cube that shows the bounds of their own 3D printer's build plate, customizable by the user, maybe with a few of the more common printers sized included as defaults (Makerbot, Ultimater, etc)

    3) Below-minimum size detection. Currently a 3D printers resolution is limited by a number of factors, the main of which is its nozzle size. For instance my printer's nozzle in .4mm, so it can not create "lines" or geometry smaller than that. (If a model is scaled down to fit in a printers build area, a regular problem comes about with handrails, fences and PIO details where the printer cant make the objects small enough, so you either get nothing or a pile of spaghetti where the printer tries to do its best.)

    4) Overhang detection. Many aspects of an architectural model are not conducive to 3D printing, such as porches or decks that hang off the side with no support, (if the site model isn't printed with the rest of the building) hanging fixtures inside the model or standard roof overhangs. This would not be encouraging the users to change their model (this is considered an unacceptable solution) but to inform the user that they may need to enable Support in their slicing settings.

    5) Manifold STL exports. Currently STLs from Vectorworks often need to be repaired by a mesh modeling utility like MeshLab or NetFABB before they can be printed cleanly, ideally this feature would be included in our STL export process.

This is just a sample of my list, but are there any other features that would be deemed useful? Feedback from users who are either interested or experienced in this would be appreciated.

How much of this made it to v2016 Jim? (I am considering purchasing a 3D printer to be mainly used with VWs models.)

  2. OK sorry just found the solution......I don't know if I like it though.....

The model does actually adjust to the new/edited stack objects, however I had placed them outside the Site Model Crop region and instead of automatically adjusting the crop region to the new stakes I need to manually adjust the crop....?! Strange......

  3. Sheesh all these questions

Well the whole process was as follows,

    1. I created a whole bunch of stake objects in the correct place and height and generated a Site model using them.

    2. I right click on the model and choose Edit Site Model Source Data

    3. I then added a new (moved an existing) stake object exited the mode and updated the site model and......nothing!

Is this a strange or incorrect workflow?

  4. OK so I created a site model using stake objects...so far so good, however if I then Edit Site model source data and add a new stake, nothing happens?! Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

  5. Artlantis has plugins for almost all the CAD platforms and the nice thing is you can constantly update the model all the previous work done remains intact, very nice because you can continue adjusting the model in the CAD program and simply push the changes to the Artlantis model each time you're ready.

  6. If implemented PLEASE don't make it as it is in Revit where you need to click on the window to activate it, this really 'pees' me off in Revit, I always start zooming directly on a window only to find the window next to it (the one that is active) starts to zoom, very frustrating.

As soon as the cursor moves over a window it needs to activate automatically.

  7. I am also experiencing quite a lot of lags and a couple of crashes using older files.....this is however quite normal with almost each release so give it a couple of weeks...... (I usually like to think of it as if the PC/Mac needs to get aquainted with the new program )

  8. I would actually expect (wish) for them to work as we expected.......click the quick button to change the mode, use the quick button pull down menu to change the default....... Beta users this must have hit you at some point!?

  9. I have the same issue with classes on the menu bar.

Scrolling the classes in the navigation palette works fine on my VW2015 on Windows 10 (and did fine on Win 8/8.1) so maybe you could use that as an alternative.

Nope it's when I want to change the class of an object.......

...the behaviour should be such that the default jumps to the existing class in the list and then mouse wheel scrolling should take you up and down.

As it is now the list opens at the top and you need to use the arrows to scroll the list aaaaaaaalllllll the way down etc....... TEDIOUS like mad.

  10. Hi Jon! Welcome to the forum :)

Please add a signature with your VWs and PC specs, it makes it easier to help you if we see what you're working with.

    To answer your questions:

    1. There is no merge or replace function for textures unfortunately however it has been wished for, we'll need to wait a day or two to see if it made it to the coming version....

    https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=40544&Number=200928#Post200928

    2. I don't think there is a solution for this, however if I recall correctly there have been wishes along those lines, so again we'll have to wait a couple of days to see if it has been inttroduced in the new version.

  11. No, it has something to do with class settings in new files, it happens a lot to me with the glass in windows and doors, I can work on several new files without issue and then once in a while the glass shows opaque instead of clear, all I then need to do is go into settings and out agian and the glass is clear. Or I change the glass class texture and it won't first show the changes until I go into settings and change the glass class to a different random class go out and go into settings again and change back to the glass class and then it accepts the new settings...strange but true......

  12. Would these profiles be symbols ideally, similar to the request for symbol profiles being made usable in Extrude Along Path objects?

I would think there would be a standard set of gutter profiles and that a user would not customize them heavily on a regular basis, just build up their library of profiles and just add new ones occasionally as needed.

Spot on Jim, and as Tim pointed out, it would be good with a solution for end capping (perhaps this also could be a symbol.)

And if we really want to get into things perhaps a solution for downspouts could be added too ;) something like this:

    https://andreafacchinello.wordpress.com/uno/downspouts-free/

    http://www.vectorworks.net/community/partner-products/product/downspouts

  13. Please introduce an option for a Gutter in Roof Objects.

I usually use the Fascia to simulate a gutter however, if this function already exists, either enhance the fascia so that it can be used as a gutter or (preferably) add a new option especially for gutters.

If implemented what we need is:

1 options for vertical and horizontal offset

2 options for different gutter profiles
