  1. For instance, in order to go 64bit, we have to rewrite almost EVERY tool and command on Mac in Cocoa,......

.........so we will see how fast the features start coming once engineers can be freed up to do way more user-facing tasks.

Well, seeing you're doing a 'rewrite of the program' I hope 'you' take the opportunity to give VWs a proper 'defragmentation' as has been wished for for a long time now.

Half of my(our) frustrations rest in the fact that the program feels like a pile of good but half integrated tools and functions.

The other half of my(my) frustrations lie in the fact that I can't produce 2D drawings from 3D models at a fast enough rate/without jumping through hoops i.e. at this point in time being able to draft most 'normal' situations (e.g. Roofs with a correct plan representation, Elevations with hatches and editable line weights and Window Schedules with correct live views and auto-dimensioning) is the minimum demand.

It sounds promising and I must admit that the latest release did seem to be a more sturdy one with regards to our wishes.

Yes, VWs is cheaper, but I would be prepared to pay a one time extra cost (up to double my VSS subscription) to temporarily hire extra engineers to get the program up to date with the competition to the next release.....within one year.

  2. Well it's what you don't see in the video......until now VWs has been a lot better in 3D modelling (or it has been painfully absent in the competition) but the competition (archicad, Revit) have been more accomplished drafting tools for constuction drawings and the likes, and let's be honest VWs has been losing even more ground in that area for many years now.

When I see this video I wonder where the advantage now lies in sticking to VWs as an architect, until now the time saved in early stage designing ie mainly 3D modeling and presentation work has compensated time lost doing work-arounds (eg creating a dedicated layer with a copy of each door and window for scheduling purposes) and double drafting (eg drawing in dead 2D hatches on live elevations) in construction drawing stages. That advantage is disappearing fast and my main hope is that NV gets their priorities right and up to speed so that i avoid needing to invest in something else that will save me money in the end.

  3. Sorry Jim didn't mean to sound like a smart ass, thing is we are the ones that hit upon these 'bugs' daily and need to work with or around them it's part of our workflow, finding out what the program is actually doing instead of what it 'should' be doing is an important part of the process for us to be able to use the tools until they are fixed. (plus we try to find out what the problem is too and this way you guys can fix it faster.....)

  4. All good and well but how on earth can the 'flat' distance of an object seen in perspective be more than the actual objects length, ever, isn't that impossible???

I think what is happening is that the tool is measuring distance along the ground plane, i.e.. like a shadow on the floor, the resulting distance will thus be larger the lower the point of the 3D camera. (C. there is a snap that constrains to a certain plane which I use when I need to measure in 3D, perhaps that can help....)

  5. Changing the wall style should always change the existing ones. Are you sure you're changing the correct style? Are the walls really styled, check in the OIP what style they are?

  6. You know I'm a bit embarrassed now Brian.....after rereading the thread I realize your talking about the doors and not the cross....and as it happens they are stock custom leafs, I just happened to have chosen those in the spur of the moment so no creative thinking on my part there.....not being all cocky now am I......

  7. Otherwise, we'll all need neck braces from jerking our heads every time it auto zooms.

 true Benson........ an option to hover for a certain amount of time (like in smart edges) and animated zoom(like in rotated plan) should do the trick, (I think one would learn avoiding congestion points automatically after a while during other actions just like I do now to avoid loads of smart points and edges polluting the screen). Plus a quick prefs option to switch the function on and off (perhaps the Z key can be set to do the quick pref toggle). This way the user can decide if the Z-loupe is used as before when hitting Z or with the new auto settings.

  8. Well personally I would like to have the choice to set the B key functionality universally, I don't think I'll be using a mixture of both. I guess it should be an option in the VWs Prefs dialog or like you say an option in the quick prefs. However for the people using both an option to assign a hot key for each would be good. I don't fancy the double-tap suggestion because switching on and off in quick succession would mean 4 quick taps which creates a large margin for error in a tap too much or too little....me thinks.

  9. I'm sure this has been asked for but just in case: please add an option where we can set the X-ray to toggle on resp. off when we hit the B-Key, sometimes I need both hands when drawing in X-Ray mode (one for the mouse and the other to enter something on the keyboard) and thus holding down the B-Key is rather difficult.
