Yes,check out Sam Jone's AutoPlot tools for spotlight. There are dimensioning macros that are what you are looking for.

If you are using VW Calltool for your boxes, there are various properties you can select for them. The bubble shadow is one of them. Add on LandruNoteBox also has this function.

You can go to the snapping palette and toggle the snapping functions you desire.
I am assuming you know about dragging the cursor across multiple objects, while pressing the left button. You have various marquee options such as lasso,rectangle, etc.
I think there is a basic table and chair symbol in one the Vectorworks libraries, but you can also import one of your cad symbols and use them. Just import the cad file into VW and move the symbol to the folder or drawing you like.

I am not sure what the cause of your problem is, but does importing/replacing the fixtures symbols on your plot from a good file or favorites solve the immediate problem of no lighting devices? Just wondering.

If you interested,you can also check out Joshua Benghiat's "Savvy Symbol Key" plugin that allows you more key customization than the one with spotlight.

It may be a different issue, but just make sure that both radio buttons are unchecked in Lightwight exchange.

I do not believe you can rotate the position name separately from the position. As you know the name will rotate with the position. If the name is not placed where you want it you can move it and adjust the text style etc. from "format text" but not rotate it. My suggestion was to have your symbol positioned horizontally in the symbol edit section, and upon insertion rotate the position vertically. The name will then be in a vertical orientation, although the text might be upside down for what is needed for your drawing. I also assume you are aware that the position name is not a label legend but a part of the summary box in the light position object plug-in. Again I hope this helps.

You might try to edit the position symbol in the resource browser so that it has a horizontal position. Upon insertion, rotate the position to the desired vertical placement and move the label to where you need to be. Hope this is close to what you are looking for.

You can color the fixture by editing the symbol. If you still want the original symbol to have no color try making a duplicate of the symbol and applying the desired fill. This is the only way I am aware of to accomplish what you are trying to do. This method obviously color all the symbols that use that particular instance. If you are just trying to highlight individual instruments,(ie keeping track of focused lamps etc.)this method will not work for you.

I do not know it this will help, but I have had similar crash problems. Turning off the Lightwright exchange is the quick fix. I I was told by Kevin the problem is with symbols that have some how been saved as a lighting device within the symbol. He did have a script that fixed it, and said later service packs will address the issue. I still have occasional problems with SP2 even with the installed version of Quicktime. I am not sure if this is the same issue as you are dealing with.

The .mcd extension was replaced starting with 2008. I briefly looked a your plot in 2011. I am not sure if you are changing all the instrument info for your "show" or want to also keep what appears to be the house rep info. Are you wanting to add records to the symbols that have default info records i.e. instrument type, weight, beam and field angles, etc. Or do you just want the usual paperwork info like channel,position,color etc.If you want to just put in your new show info then detach the fixture data record from your symbols and when you convert all to "lighting instruments" your "show" data appears correctly. You will have to add instrument types for each lamp since there is currently no attached light info record containing default data. If you find you want default instrument info (as you probably already know) your going to have to attach the light info record to those symbols and fill in the symbol defaults you need. It also looks like you will have to re adjust your legends a bit to properly fit into those containers. Not sure about keeping both records the way things are set up now.
One other thing,if you have not already noticed, is that when you convert to lighting instruments some of your pipe side facing lights will flip 180?. This is because the file has been converted from a much earlier version before a change was made in regards to side lights crossing the center line. (can not remember what it was though)

I just checked my "Objects-Entertainment" for 2011 PC and all the lighting symbol folders are where they usually are.

Out of curiosity I played with a lineset symbol on two layers with
linked text. My attached record format was called Line Set and the criteria had one choice where the record 'Line Set' 'is' 'present'. Both objects met the criteria, and showed both objects. Even with this scenario I could still only address one lineset at a time. (cells in the 2.1 row addressed one symbol and the cells on the 2.2 row did the other one) I think Erin is trying to address both linesets at one time. I believe I did all of this correctly, but could not link or updated both symbols together.
Just curious.

I am not sure about the answer to your linking question, but if you are using the same lineset symbol for both layers you can edit the info in the edit symbol mode and this will update both of your linesets. There may be a better way to accomplish this, but this is the method that I have been using for the exact same situation. I do not find it to be too inconvenient.

You might want to check the symbol definition of that symbol instance through the edit symbol window and make sure that it has solid white fill in the parts of the symbol. Once you correct the symbol here the rest of the instruments on the plot based on that instance will be corrected.

I am on a windows computer (with 4g ram etc.) but I did have the same lag problem with 2010. For me it turned out that I had to updated my graphic card which also had more memory. This totally solved the slow response time.

I might be missing what you are trying to do, but I made a simple accessory out of a rectangle, selected 5 spotlight symbols (I normally use a different set of symbols)then ran the place devices and accs. command in AutoPlot and the acc. was placed and attached to each of the selected instruments. I did 5 in this case, but I have done many more. Are we talking about doing the same thing?

You can go to the Script editor, select the lighting device plug in, then the parameter button, and edit the name of the fields you want to.

If all is functioning correctly in a different workspace you might have a corrupted workspace and have to re build your personal one again. I usually keep a copy of my workspace in case this happens.
