I think the same bug is also there when you do a hidden line 3D animation rendering in a design layer, and whether or not Sketch is turned on: VW stops and gives an out of memory message after about 15 frames.
As I recall, I've had the same trouble with Artistic Rendering.
This is very disappointing, since the animation feature is very useful in communicating and selling a concept, not to mention it is one of the components we paid for.

Kevin - Tech said that v12 did ship with the proper plug-in files, but didn't have any explanation why in their copy and mine they were absent. The v12 installation disk does have the files, they say, but updates do not.
BTW, since I knew that the animation dialog box had two options in its upper pull-down, I did a search for 'path' and one for 'orbit' (in v11, which did work) in the Plug-ins folder, and came up with 4 files. This was before I called tech. I stuck those files in the V12.5.3 plug-ins folder. Voila! the animation dialog box appeared, but didn't have any functionality.
Then the call to tech. Coincidentally, I was on the right track, because the 4 files tech emailed me were the same ones (but v12) I had gleaned from v11.
These are the elusive files:
OrbitAnimator.dll
OrbitAnimator.qtr
PathAnimator.dll
PathAnimator.qtr

Tech (Alicia) solved it and emailed the missing plug-in files.
V12 was supposed to have been complete, but was missing them, so the animation command was non-functional from the original v12 through v12.5.3.
Case Closed.
Thanks!

Seemed a bit unnecessary for Islandmon to list a gazillion v11.5 files, when my issue is with v12.
I called VW Tech Support.
After much fooling around, including a tortuous uninstall and a reinstall, it appears that their own v12.5.3 has the same problem. Possibly it's an issue with QuickTime.
One wonders if any of the Windows versions of v12+ work for animation. Tech is to get back to me.

Good thing you've got nothing better to do.
-
Tech gone for the day?
-
You can't be serious. There are hundreds of files in at least 15 folders.
-
A Response from Tech maybe?

When I select the Animation command an error message appears:
There are no animation controller files in your Plug-ins folder.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Pat, the Obj Info palette says 'Door in Wall'.
It is in top/plan view.
I did notice that in a different layer, where doors and windows are already inserted, there is no problem. Is there some kind of layer preference that would cause this behavior?
Thanks for your response.

I insert a door (or a window) PIO and grab it with the cursor and want to move it in a wall. When the PIO is moved with the cursor the wall becomes unhinged at one end and automatically shortens to one of the jambs. Changing the 'Position' of the door in the PIO dialog box works as predicted. What gives?
I've been using VW since almost the beginning. Unexpected things like this are annoying, to say the least.
-
Aside from that, I notice that the Proposed Area data field does not display the value entered in the settings dialog box- just "0 sq ft" even though a value is shown in the settings dialog box.

SteveK,
That's it! Thank you.
Islandmon, in 12.5 Space is not listed as one of the editable scripts. In 11.5 Space is listed and it's parameters can be changed.
-
Islandmon had been helpful to many of us, but on this occasion, perhaps we need VW tech support?
-
Joz, that's all I can find too: tools>scripts>script plug-in editor.
-
Eh? My VW doesn't seem to have Script Editor, or "Space" within VW Plug-In Editor. Are you using a different version?
-
Is there any way to reduce the 3-decimal place accuracy of the space command? There doesn't seem to be anything in the dialog box or settings that would address this. It causes clients to laugh and is an embarrassment.

Maybe this is the same issue: Make the lines in a rendered viewport gray and not black. I can't find a way of doing it.
-
It's what we do now, but now with less elegance.
Thanks for that.
-
I've used Saved Views for saving perspective views which do in fact have cropping. Very useful. Of course now you can do essentially the same thing with a viewport.

Custom/Standard is a non sequitur.

Katie writes, "Architect magazine has honored Nemetschek North America?s VectorWorks Architect 2008 design software with first place in its 6th Annual Architect's Choice for Excellence (ACE) Awards in the computer software category."
Our December issue has disappeared and looking at Architect magazine's web site, I can't find any mention of ACE awards in the 11/07, 12/07, or 1/08 issues. A search under ACE doesn't turns up 0.
Can this be verified? Thanks.

Tad,
That's some RAM you got! No wonder Apple's stock has risen 3000% in the last 10 years.

Upon looking into this myself, I found it indeed possible to manipulate a photo in PhotoShop so that it can be used as a wall texture. The entire photo covers the elevation. It does take time and I'm not sure the results are much better than doing the whole thing in VW. However, when an existing building elevation contains a lot of detail, you can capture all of it in a photo (sans 3D ins and outs).
