Further more why can't you just simply have a choice of any symbol for that matter. Is it really that hard or am I clearly thinking way out of the VW box?

The system (and presumably the coding) is already in place to add such a simple bit of functionality. Why not have it function like the Drawing Border tool, where you have a file within the library and can choose from a group of symbols. If you want to change the symbols for the way you work, you just add a symbol to the file and get working.

While I am on a roll, I hate the default electrical symbols tool. Why can't I change the way those symbols show up? I understand proprietary information and all that, but really, being able to customize these things seems like such a simple thing. And something that almost everyone who uses the program is surely going to want to do at some point.

[Section Style Class Not Showing Up in Referenced File]

Ok, we have been playing with Workgroup Referencing in preparation for a large project and some things are not working.

I have a file: "WG_Model" that contains a very simple model of a one story building.

I have a second file "WG_Section" that contains a reference to WG_Model.

In WG_Section we created a section viewport. In this viewport something showed up...just not what we were expecting. Most of the building shows up, except for walls that extend into the attic space and the rafters. Also the "Section Style" class was not created automatically as it usually is.

So then I went back to the WG_Model file and took a section viewport. Voila! Things show up as expected.

Has anyone else run into this?

It seems that the entire point of Workgroup Referencing is defeated if you can't create the drawings of even a very simple building and get things to show up consistantly.

Sorry about that. I really should do these things when I am awake. I put the wrong link. So you should redownload and then follow these instructions.

GrayscaleMe

GrayscaleMe can be placed on the Desktop, or in a folder with an alias on your Dock. In this example, GrayscaleMe is on the Desktop for ease of screenshots.

1) Export the view you want from VW as a pdf.

Step One

2) I save it to a folder called "To Be Grayed". NOTE this workflow will change the original file! So if you want a colored copy of the pdf, make sure you duplicate it.

Step Two

3) Drag and drop the files you want to convert onto GrayscaleMe.

Step Three

4) GrayscaleMe will ask you to confirm that you want convert the files. There is no going back to the colored version if you click "OK".

Step Four

5) After GrayscaleMe has run it will append the file with"_bw".

Step Five

6) Now all your selected files are converted to grayscale.

I have written an Automator workflow. It takes a pdf, or group of pdfs and changes them from color to the Quartz filter gray scale.

Unfortunately it only works for Mac folks.

I have found that exporting as a .tiff first, then opening PhotoShop and saving as an .ai or eps gives the best results.
