  1. Peter, I ungrouped the roof and did my solid subtraction & got the desired result. (See Attached) As for editing an individual roof face, when in edit mode, the base walls disappear to the white screen, so not sure how to use that command yet??

If I want to drop a plate height to say 7'-0" on (1) wall how is this accomplished. Additionally, when I "Create Roofs" they jump to some arbitrary Z-height location. Where is this controlled? TY Jeremy

  2. Hi All,

I am new to the "Create Roof" tool and have been drawing rectangles & creating roofs with some success. I have a condition with a stair tower at a 10'-0" plate, punching thru the main hip roof down at an 8'-0" plate. How can I simply subtract the stair tower volume without turning the main roof into a "solid subtraction"... better yet, what is the best way to construct this roof?

    Thanks, Jeremy

  3. Bob, not finding a "2D elevation" dropdown in the OIP of a given viewport. I know I can change the "current view" of a viewport & copy viewports on a Design Layer to view all sides. What I would like to then do is "Convert Copy to Polygons or Lines" the individual elevation views without destroying the model.

This is simply to be used as a headstart for 2D elevations as my 3D model is not 100% accurate (I need to draw the roofs, trim, rafter tails, etc..) in 2D. Any help is greatly appreciated. TY Jeremy

  4. Pat,

I followed the link & tip, it worked just fine but is surprisingly convoluted for what should be a "two-click" process. Maybe a "create 2D elevation" dropdown?? For those of us who are not fully 3D operational... TY Jeremy

  5. Hi All,

What is the easiest way to create quick 2D elevations generated from the 3D model? I had created a viewport of a "side elevation" and placed it in a design layer. I then selected "convert to lines" & this converted the model to lines. This is not what I want to do. I would like to use the 3D model for massing/window/door locations & then draw over the top "old school" in a design layer, not a sheet layer viewport.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

  6. Peter, You are correct that fixes the problem. Not sure why VW would move the Z coordinate? Additionally, if in my Design Layer set up I set Z=10'-0" delta-Z=9'-0", then why doesn't the Z in the OIP also show as 10'-0"? TY Jeremy

  7. Hi All,

I have set up my drawing with:

    First Floor: Z=0, delta-Z=9'-0"

    Second Floor: Z= 10'-0", delta-Z=9'-0"

    Floor slabs 1'-0" in between

...and am getting the following in the OIP, bottom Z= -10'-0", delta-Z=20'-0" (see screen shot).

I don't have time to individually select each wall & correct them (or maybe I do)

    1) Is there a custom selection option that will allow me to correct the Z & delta-Z, to match my drawing setup?

    2) Why is this happening?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

  8. Wes, I replied too soon the site model appears in plan only. When I look from a "front" view I only see the horizontal line of the "viewport referenced" not the 3D site model on which to place my building? Why is this happening? TY Jeremy

  9. Hi All,

I am having difficulty referencing a VW file. I am looking to reference in a 3D site model into my architectural plan. I establish a new design layer for the referenced file>class is set to "none" and I get the following message:

Creating a reference to a Vectorworks file... via the Resource Browser.

If you want to reference layer geometry...external file as the source.

If you want to use old style layer import... References pane.

... I select OK and the reference does not appear. I am new to referencing files in general, but have been able to reference PDF files with no problem. What am I doing wrong? More importantly what is the best way to reference the site model properly? TY Jeremy

  10. Ion- I will review the fit walls to roof option & search the board, as I will be needing to use it as I progress up to the roof. My initial experiment wasn't so successful... not sure how to select the stair as the object to fit to? Wes, thanks for the screen shots that worked out rather easily. TY Jeremy

  11. Wes, I select the "3D Selection tool" click on the wall & (6) nodes appear (1) at each corner of the wall & (1) at midpoint. Then the 3D wall reshape appears. I can only drag an existing node which then tapers the entire top of the wall, not the clip as you have shown. Can you please send me a screen shot. TY Jeremy

  12. Hi All,

What is the best way to draw a sloped wall/top rail at a stair? I have drawn a conventional wall & subtracted the portion above the rail. See attached. Is there a sloped wall command? Or is what I am drawing part of the stair tool? Also is there a way to combine the (2) walls drawn to remove the vertical line between them other than drawing (1) continuous wall? TY Jeremy

  13. Hello All,

I have constructed the 3D model of the building and need to know, what is the best way to show a cantilevered 2nd floor as "dashed lines above" without showing the entire 2nd floor plan? Is there a better way than simply tracing the portions that are cantilvered/setting the line type to dashed/ & creating these items as a class on the 1st floor plan? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Jeremy

  14. Hi All,

Is there anyway to track changes to a set of drawings? For example, a window or door is moved a few inches by one of the project team and isn't immediately apparent. Can I set up a script or is their a manner in which to track changes that have occurred within a given time period?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

  15. billtheia,

I was already using Final Gather in CR. I did turn down the 25w bulbs to 10% & got an acceptable result. Not sure then how a room is "accurately lighted" using fixtures & bulb wattages whereby I will need to tone them each down to avoid hotspots?? At any rate the result is good enough for what I was doing.

    TY, Jeremy

  16. Hi All,

I am running into the issue Bruce was having with softer shadows as well. I have taken islandmond's suggestion below except for "roughed bump texture" as I am not sure how to apply this to a simple painted wall? I have posted the image. I have a 25W incandescent bulb with light brightness at 50% that is creating an extremely sharp hot spot?? Not sure why. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Jeremy

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Custom Renderworks Options> Lighting>Shadow Mapped Shadows>High

    Sample Quality > High

It also helps to use a rough bumped texture for the the shadows to fall on to.
