  1. I would like to import the "Doors and Windows" from 8.5 to 9.5 . Not one at a time, but actually install the file in "resources".Can it be done and of course how is it done? Thanks
  2. Official or not, you're right. I've just now tried to make a hole in a log wall using my original idea,[ adding and subtract ing solids],and it worked. What I was doing wrong before, I'll never know. So, the "simple" solution will work. The major drawback of this method is when changing the locations or deleting doors and windows, you would be left with a hole in the wall, which I suppose would require replacing the whole wall and starting over. Not a simple solution. I have posted a "wish" for the addition of a couple of new "wall styles". Thanks Andrew, for your input. Nothing like someone who knows what they're doing.I am still in the " trying to know " stage.
  3. And here's the wish. A couple of log walls in the wall style menu. 12" dia. and 16" dia. would suit me fine. And while you're at it, a straw bale wall would also be a nice resource to have. Meanwhile, thanks for the 3D Power Pack.
  4. Thanks Andrew, for the suggestion. I've tried the first method and it doesn't work. Something about non- planar polygons. What does work uses the 3d power pack, and of course it's very simple. Here it is-- 1] create the log wall 2] convert to nurbs 3]ungroup 4]add solids 5]place an extruded shape thru the wall 6] subtract solids and there it is , a hole in the wall. Thanks to the 3dpp- pdf and the hat tutorial. I will try your second suggestion soon. Today was my first ,working with 3dpp, and it solved the problem quite nicely.
  5. thanks Joe, these days, I can use a bit of direction.
  6. I've "constructed" a wall made of 16" dia. extruded circles.[a log wall] .I would like to cut door and window sized openings. Anyone?
  7. no reply needed. I t came to me soon after I posted the question.
  8. One for one. How about rendering a roof with dormer without the shingles covering the dormer face?
  9. "Ask and ye shall receive" No Kevin I was not aware of such a feature. I'm going to try it right now. Thankyou
  10. The present overhangs created by the dormer function are not accurate, in that they lack rafter support. Needless to say, their appearance in a drawing is unusable as they now appear. Could we please get a "fix" at the source. thankyou
  11. In theory------Unfortunately, It is not possible to combine Extruded circles [logs] into a solid; the"Add solid" tool. The subtract solid tool won't work as a simple solution.Back to the drawing board, which is where I do my log house renderings.
  12. A simple solution? In theory at least. First draw the walls using the wall tool. "install" and record sizes & positions of doors and windows. Centre the logs over the walls[which must be narrow enough to not show thru the logs]: then use the Subtract Solids tool to reveal the doors and windows. Comments?
  13. Thanks all , for your input. I'm sure to learn a lot of new things trying out all of your solutions. Regards, Garry
  14. Hi Travis, I would appreciate hearing your method of placing valley rafters. I've managed to figure out a way, which involves creating a rectangle, clipping to obtain the valley rafter shape, then extruding and rotating to position. Any resemblance to your method? Thanks for your interest. Regards Garry Dreger
  15. Would you please post a short? tutorial on how to place valley rafters in a 3D drawing of a timberframe ? Thanks.
  16. Are you running in "classic" or "Native" mode? Do you have a earlier OS installed? [9.1 or?] If so, try opening in an earlier OS. My computer tech thinks the problem is that VW's cannot run "natively" in OS 10.
  17. Thanks ,Chris and jodawi , for your replies. The windows, doors, cabinets, etc, that are part of VW's 8.5 resources are now part of the "ARCHITECT" Program - Plug-in.
  18. In the Resources of 8.5, there are windows, doors, cabinets, etc. of specified type and size. I am unable to access these in 9.5. I would appreciate some direction. thanks
  19. Where are the Windows and Doors? thanks
  20. How does one make an opening in a wall? ------------------
