Safe Mode / Boot Without Extensions

    Jim Wilson

If you suspect that some third party application or setting is interfering with Vectorwork’s operation, it is wise to boot into the OS without extensions (Mac), or in Safe Mode (Win)

    Windows:

Restart the machine, during POST, repeatedly tap the F8 key, a screen will appear and ask what mode you wish to boot in, choose “Safe Mode with Networking”

If Vectorworks runs as expected in Safe Mode, but does not run in normal mode, then usually the problem can be attributed to an application that launches during Windows startup, these applications can be viewed here:

    Mac:

Restart the machine, before the chime; hold down SHIFT until the boot screen with the Apple and spinning logo comes up. Once this happens, you will have booted without extensions.

If Vectorworks works in this mode, then there is something running in the background in "normal" mode (Antivirals, spyware blockers, archivers) that is to blame for the issue.
