At any time while in Vectorworks, you can press the space bar to enter what is called "Boomerang" mode. This special mode of the Pan tool allows you to enable document panning, with the added benefit of temporarily suspending your current active drawing tool. So even if in the middle of drawing a set of walls or complex polylines, you can press the space bar, then pan and zoom to the desired location and then resume drawing as if nothing had happened.
This is a big time saver over finishing drawing an object, switching to the Pan tool, moving your view then reactivating the tool you have been using manually.
