Toward a New Architecture: 1985 - 2005Modernist architects shocked their contemporaries by designing buildings of pure function. Post-modern architects retaliated, creating structures so heavily adorned that you could forget what their function even was. Now, we explore today’s response to the past and the best of what’s to come. Enabled by the precision of computers, this era of design is marked by experimentation in shape and structure: using technology to push the limits of what a building can become and forging a sense of style through the totality of a form, rather than its individual elements.
Learning Objectives
 :
Differentiate among the works of the time period’s prominent architects, such as Richard Meier, Thom Mayne, and Renzo Piano. Discover the role that technology plays in the emergence of new, high-tech design. Discuss the historic influence of past architectural masters on today’s new breed of designers. Assess the potential impact of current design trends on future architectural movements.

The Biz of Previz: Efficient Workflows for Corporate PrevisualizationJoin Thomas Thompson, president of Prelite Studios, LLC, as he discusses best practices for collaborating on large-scale corporate events from initial lighting design to previsualization. Specifically, Thompson will highlight efficient workflows using a real world case study: the 2016 Deloitte Partner/Principal/Director (PPD) Meeting at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Attendees will follow Thompson throughout his process, examining the tools and technology he used to previsualize the event based on models he received from an external team. :
Learning Objectives:
Determine what critical data needs to be gathered from the corporate client in order to ensure the success of a given model. Explore strategies for acquiring and incorporating information during design development (i.e. patch information, files, etc.). Discover best practices for setting up layer and class visibilities within a Vectorworks Spotlight design file. Examine export options from Vectorworks Spotlight to Vision previsualization software for better organization and control. Register
