Pre-PostApocalyptic Architecture: 1965 - 1985The Earth wasn’t destroyed, so now what? After living under the threat of a nuclear apocalypse from the end of WWII to 1965, architecture had to find a way to cope with its extended mortality and give meaning and expression to its détente with the future.
Join Architect Steve Alden, AIA, as he dissects this shift away from the stripped-down functionalism of modern design toward the diverse aesthetics, ornamentation, and symbolism of the post-modern movement, examining the work of many of this period’s renowned architects, from Robert Venturi and Philip Johnson to Michael Graves and Charles Gwathmey.
Learning Objectives
 :
Explain how social and technological shifts are reflected in the creative decisions designers make. Differentiate between the works of several important architects who contributed to this unique chapter in American architectural history. Recognize how scientific breakthroughs impact visionary thinking and sometimes lead to solutions that are impossible to fulfill. Discuss how mid-century designers assimilated technology and social expectations into a distinctive brand that still influences architects today.

The Art and Function of 3D ModelingWhen it's time to transform an idea into a digital 3D form, it all comes down to understanding the tools that you use. There are multiple ways to achieve the same shape, so determining best practices with 3D modeling tools can vary based on your design intent, skill level, and the complexity of your project. Join Luis Ruiz in a one-hour webinar exploring the various tool sets and features that enable custom modeling for a variety of project types. Attendees will examine modeling capabilities on a case by case basis, determining the function of individual tools, as well as through the lens of an entire project, seeing how the details of a larger project can be determined through the context of 3D modeling techniques. Ruiz will also touch upon the role of basic rendering techniques in a comprehensive modeling workflow.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the different tool and feature sets available for effective 3D modeling. Discover effective workflows for executing on concepts in 3D both individually and in terms of a larger project. Observe 3D modeling best practices in action by examining real-world examples. Determine the role of rendering technology in a 3D modeling workflow. Register

Philadelphia User GroupTopic: Greetings fellow Vectorworks users! Come join us on Tuesday to explore some of the new tools in Vectorworks 2017. We'll explore cable tools, replacing truss objects with symbols, and making reports. We will also spend some time on viewports. Feel free to bring your laptop, or a USB to plug into the Design Center's computers to talk about your work.Register
