You can use data base worksheets to locate items if you right click in the row header and click "select item". (It has to be a single item - i.e. not summed or summarised). Yes keynotes can only be on one keynote legend. You can choose which legend the callout keynote appears but it can only appear on one legend. Here's another thread discussing getting keynotes the same across multiple sheets and keynote legends. Cheers
  3. K: These days 4gb vram is barely enough. I'm running 16 but 8 should do it. I'm also running 32GB of RAM in an effort to future proof the hardware a little. 2020 like others before it, won't be stable until SP2 (and sometimes 3). As functionality goes, unfortunately 2020 is mostly window dressing. There are numerous features and user requests that got ignored. I've stuck with 2019 for now simply because I don't trust 2020. Too many time-sucking issues to overcome... Sorry I don't really have anything concrete to offer, but you have my sympathies.

    Notes Manager VW2020

@jnr I am having similar problems. I can't seem to add notes or additional Sections in the Database. They disappear once I've added them. This feature used to work, now it does not. I have copied and pasted notes from another file, but they don't seem to stay in the database - the VW one or the User one. I tried to add a Section titled "Restrooms" for relevant notes. They disappear. Confused

On the occasions when VW has been causing me problems I try running it after booting in safe mode. It's really annoying that it always makes the problem go away. Which means I have an extension or something else I truly don't understand 🙂 that is causing the problem.

    No Stories, No Problem

Thank you Zeno, 😀 ... I just have been reproached that I speak a total mix between German and English! I think that we will do a common zero for the project. We must use the coordinates during IFC export, so, let's go for "common zero".

    Extrude VW2019 vs. VW 2020

I have found that the line, converted to nurbs, can be extruded to a nurbs surface, which I 'think' can then be transformed to Polygon.

    (section)viewports not rendering 2d items

@Frank Schnater, Could you post or send me a file showing this problem? My initial hunch is that your "horizontal section" is a "regular section" that was created from an elevation viewport? If so, try creating a horizontal section by using the "Create Horizontal Section" command in the View menu (in VW 2019 or 2020) and see if you get different results.

    macOS Catalina (10.15) Compatibility

Almost every release I find that someone calls to say Vectorworks is broken, and it transpires they have just updated their OS after a long history of OS updates dating back to 10.11 or something. Now, in theory, yes, OS updates 'ought' to work, but the reality is never so straightforward. When asking few more questions we find the Mac in question is old, had multiple users, where all historic accounts are still present, and the Mac has never once since it has been used been reformatted or even had simply house-keying done, like zapping PRAM or resetting SMC, etc, and this stuff is dead easy and requires no IT knowledge whatsoever. So, when someone says, Vectorworks is broken, the first thing to do is uninstall it, and then reinstall it. If you don't even do that you have no right to moan about Vectorworks.

    (section)viewports not rendering 2d items

Hello David, Thank you for your reply. Strange. Attached 2 snippets of a drawing: one with a viewport (top-plan view) and the other with a section-viewport ('Display planar Objects', 'Display 2D Components' and 'Display 2D' Fills all 'on'). The '2591' dimension-lines are in Plane 'layer'. The missing arrowheads are an 'known bug' they told me. The doors are missing their swing because the section-viewport only displays the 3d porion of hybrid symbols (so I could solve this by adding a swing in the 3d portion of all symbols, but I'd rather have the option to display either the 2d or 3d portion, and I certainly don't like it that Nemetschek decides to change this behaviour from one version to the other. This is not a fatal problem though.). The difference in dimension appearance and dashed line appaearance: I don't know! The third screenshot is the same drawing with both viewports exported back to VW2018. Regards, Frank

    Vectorscript troubleshooting

Hi Everyone, quick question, have a VS script here, taken from a script that calculated occupancy load calculations from a space object using custom fields in the space plugin object. After VW has now transferred alot of the space objects capabilities into regular, geoemetry, I was curious if anyone can help me port a similar functioning script for polygons / rectangle objects. Script (and original author name is below) I attached a VW that shows some of the information I use in my documents. What I wanted to do is integrate occupancy in these areas, and some building code information. Note - The script operates without any errors, but, for some reason it doesn't actually change the record. Maybe someone can be pointed in the right direction from some of the VSwizards out there? (This is a duplicate post from the architectural forum, but I deleted that post, and reposted in here, since I thought it could be more relevant) Thanks in advance!!! my application for this use of text, is to create a system schematic, each text box represents a specific piece of equipment that i generated from a spreadsheet, so it is feasible a callout style box could work, although it may be a little clumsy. however the same text-box/callout would need to locate multiple time across the drawing, meaning i'd still have to be able to search for where it is located. That said, if i could highlight where all the boxes were and edit them all at the same time, that would be useful. obviously this is no good for my current drawings, but I will look into seeing is they're useful for future use! regarding Calllouts... I cannot work out how to put the key legend down when using it on a second sheet. on the first sheet, the callout numbers are created and the keynote drops in automatically, when i annotate the second sheet, it numbers the callouts, but the keynote legend never appears! weird!

    macOS Catalina (10.15) Compatibility

OK I'll take the bait... #1 anyone upgrading to Catalina right now is taking a huge risk with their business (most professionals I work with are perpetually one year behind on macOS, and we have no issues). Furthermore, you're accepting huge trade-offs (no 32-bit apps)... And for what? Subscription services like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple TV? #2 sounds like you're experiencing graphics hardware issues with old equipment (not the MBP). 2020 really takes advantage of GPU over CPU. My 2014 MBP was choking on 2020 vs 2019. This is a good problem to have because the solution is new hardware that isn't 5+ years old. Easy peasy. #3 VW2020 is probably the most stable .0 and .1 release I've experienced since I've been using it (2011). From the outside looking in, there are signs that they focused on shipping a stable .0 release over packing every single new feature into it at launch (future SP updates will add features). I ran 2019 and 2020 side by side in Sep/Oct, and now that I'm migrating to a new 2019 MBP (and starting new projects), I'll only be installing 2020 SP1. Honestly, holding VW accountable for Apple's nonsense is a losing battle. It's beyond frustrating how many things Apple breaks every year. Us long time Mac users just want them to leave well enough alone.

    learning script

Can someone please write me a simple script of a simple 3D square with a hole extrusion being subtracted from the middle , I sent screenshot of example. (Btw its a circle not a polygon , some reason looks like a polygon) My idea is to start learning from here . thank you thank you.
  24. @Amorphous - Julian I agree that the tools are awkward and could use some reworking. I’ve found it easier to delete and start over rather than editing wall recesses. Push/pull functionality is a good idea.

    Extrude VW2019 vs. VW 2020

Bug or Feature ? in VW 2019 a line can be extruded to a 'wall' this 'wall' can have a fill from the attributes palette. in VW 2020 (SP1) the fill button is deactivated for an extrude created from a line. (It works normal for an extrude created from a rectangle or polygon) This is very confusing when working with older files that are converted to VW 2020.

    Viewport "Styles"

Sad Face. I somehow thought this would not be that hard to do; I thought it would be an easy win. Glad to know it is still in the consciousness and is maybe on the horizon to be considered for possible future pipeline insertion.
  27. To my knowledge you can move plant database files from one USER folder to another, which would at least sync you short term. This isn't a real sustainable strategy, but may be useful in the short term. Instead, I still recommend WORKGROUP folders as the way to go to collectively manage the database...it just means that you have to coordinate its use a little better. One of the ways we have done this is to set aside time for plant database updates and the selection of "Favorites". We then have created Favorite resources files, complete with Plant Symbols pre-defined to specific plant records. These are symbols we use repeatedly. This has allowed our users to still select plants and actively plant projects without the need to spend time in the database. Just a thought.
