Get fill color of a class on a worksheet?

Persists the warning message "Comma expected" for every class I have on my vw file. Then the worksheet opens filled with the classes info on top. Second table empty info. Both methods the same result.

@MullinRJ Ha - Raymond has alerted me that my intended tone was not apparent - so I guess I should clarify - Jim - you are awesome. Thank you for your work. Do not worry - I am not really leaving for Cheif architect because of your departure. I hope you find what you are looking for... Rest of VW... You have big shoes to fill.

Instruments not attaching to/Following Hanging Position?

For me is a bug . The same things . if i move a hanging position left to 100cm them i move back all fixture dont follow the hanging position . the solution for me is > Spotlight refresh instruments . and then all fixture go back to hanging position

Joining 3 walls with different styles

I think the last problem from the 3D example, that a non-capped T connection of that thinner Wall will fail to cut through the Plaster, although proper core setting in Styles, is something that VW could maybe solve with the existing System. Beside there is always manual modeling to workaround where PIOs reach their limitations. It would just be nice if there would be easier ways to integrate and co-existence of such Generic Solid replacements, between PIOs. VW is great for Architectural Design and Competitions. Can get a bit tedious with generating Plans at later stages. (Where Archicad shines) And there would be so much potential in making some VW Tools really good with just some small tweaks. (Move by Points, Story Level Systems, PIOs, non-View UnDo, Screenplane, Axis Locks, consistency, UI, GUI, ...) So far in Bricscad, only the whole 3D Direct Modeling and BIM part is impressive. Overall and everything 2D so far is Autocad. (Blocks, Selection, Layers, Viewports, how Tools work, ....) You may like or hate it. I entered Bricscad with v18 when I thought that it is finally usable for my purposes. But v19 unexpectedly was such a great step ahead that all their AI automatisms start to make really sense now and it is a real pleasure to work now. (If there only wouldn't be that much Autodcad inside) Converting to OS X and VW made me use Shortcut Keys, Symbols, generate Sections and Plans, C4D Exchange, Single Pane View, Library Objects ... Things that I never used in years of Microstation before. Because those weren't that much fun and easy to use. Similar for parts of Bricscad.

Tom, Do you realize Jim is not gone, he's just not an employee at the moment? Your statement is pretty harsh, and I don't think the rest of the VW employees deserve it, but good luck in your future endeavors. I'm sure you will be missed here, too. Raymond
  9. Rails and Fences. I have been playing with this feature for at least 12 hours now and I am finding I need it to do two more functions. 1) many Craftsman style rails have spindles, or bars between the "Top Rail" and the top of the "Frame Panel". So essentially, there are multiple "Frame Panels", and the tool can only make 1 panel with space between the Top Rail. I currently have to created my own 3D solids and place them by hand between the top of the panel and the bottom of the top rail. 2) While you can make a "Fence" look like a rail and with segments force it to follow a slope, however, you cannot force the segments to follow various 3D solids with various heights. In other words, the stair tool cannot create my complex deck steps and deck levels, so no rails. This has to be done by 3d solids. As you can imagine, rails need to follow the edge of these different "Z" values, of these complicated deck platforms. Yes I use DeckWorks, but the rail forms are way too simple compared to the new "Rail/Fence" tool. Also DeckWorks rails only follow stairs, and not the edge of multiple leveled decks. Could you imagine if in a "Side" flat 3d view, the rail tool had a polyline option, and you could draw that line along the edge of the top deck, than down the angle of all the other deck levels, and clicked the check mark, than the rail tool would place the rails along that path. Not only would the tool draw the rails along the flat surface, but also down all the deck levels as one continuous rail. If I am missing how to do this, let me know. THX

    [HELP] Vision pan, tilt

@SCParker I'm using Vision in demo mode, settings X,Y,Z only for the whole object, but I only need light flux ūüėē

    [HELP] Vision pan, tilt

The fastest way I've found to deal with the occasional searchlights is to make changes in the X,Y,Z settings of the units inside Vision. With the lights lit, make a change to each and when they're pointing in the direction you want, you're set. The underlying issue is the rotation of the unit within VW. It gets worse if you've done any mirroring of units. Sorry, I don't have time at this moment to delve further at the moment.
  12. Editing the Interior Elevation Tag graphics takes forever! Changing the tag class, color, or tag style creates a huge lag. The graphics of the tag need to be separated from the complex inner workings of the tool itself.

Joining 3 walls with different styles

OT: SP3.1 is available! What I like about VW is its freedom to model and present the way you want. Archicad can be quite stiff in that sense, at least was back in 1998-2004 and 2008-2011 when was the last time I used it. Maybe it's better now. Those Bricscad Composition Plies sound interesting. I have an old licencse of Bricscad but that's from the early days when it was pretty basic. Whatever the method of component joining etc., it should be "production robust" = simple and consistent enough to withstand the daily grind of the architects' practice without falling apart at the critical moment.

Wow... was not expecting this at all!?... Vectorworks' loss for sure! In any case, you have set the standard for customer/user support for any company. All the best in your future endeavors!
  16. Hi guys, I have a problem!!! When I'm sending my file from Vectorworks to Vision I got this, my lights are looking up to the sky: Although on Vectorworks my lights are looking down: How to focus my lights to down? P.S. This problem is only with moving heads.

Joining 3 walls with different styles

Well, the next Workaround option for such hardcore cross situations would be to insert a "Column" in the intersecting area from all Walls. And my last Idea would be to work with Custom Wall Ends for all Walls which would prevent from any (Auto) Joining completely. (To keep that feature for standard connections without risking the complicated ones to accidentally brake down) Could be difficult in Z direction though. When I tested all Nemetschek Apps in 2010, Archicad was already very very satisfying with its component priority setting system ! I could connect everything fine, the only problems for me appeared in Z direction, like in line-weight's example. In Bricscad I model with standard Solids. And when you activate visibility of your Composition Plies, you can PushPull each Ply (VW Component) exactly to where you need it. That works in all 3 Dimensions. More tedious but unlimited. There are different approaches, all have their pros and cons. On the other side, beside those situations where you exceed the PIO limits, VW is very fast and comfortable.
  19. Hello everyone. My curtain wall rendered in opengl shows horizontal frames in greyed line wire frame. So not filled. I'd like to see all frames filled. Glass panels and vertical frames are rendered filled as anticipated from class fill settings. All frame types are set identically in the wall edit dialogue. This rendering issue applies to horizontal frames on horizontal grid lines and the top boundary and the bottom boundary frames.....But when I render in unshaded polygon, then the whole curtain wall renders perfectly. I must have missed a setting? Any similar experience?

    Stage Deck Fill

Hi Pat, Thanks for your ideas, yes a very easy work around indeed ....... I actually though it was something I was missing with the Subtracted Solid but of course it has no 2D components, Probably because I subtracted from the deck which has 2D I was expecting the new object to have it as well. Thanks for the help Dave.

Joining 3 walls with different styles

As to the integrity of the top/plan views, I usually put these "helper" walls on an additional DL. It keeps the top/plan clean, but naturally creates some problems of it's own.

Indeed, those situations are very difficult. Stepped buildings can be a nightmare in this sense.

    Custom Tile in wall

As to your visualisation; the fill and pen are not set for the REI values? That is, they are selected (apply), but the fills, colors and thicknesses have no value -> no change to the original appearance. There is some unnamed record field showing blue and black visualisation settings, which might confuse. As to another method I saw somewhere here on the forum, this doesn't use visualisation as such: Make a class for the REI text visibility control (an on/off switch) Start eg. with the stock "Gas line" linetype, make a copy of it, and replace the text with desired text (REI 30 etc). You can fiddle with the positioning and size of the text later to get it where you want, within the wall. Create a wall style that has one extra component for the REI line. Remember to set the class properly, and colors as you wish etc. Duplicate this wall style for other REI walls, change the used line type accordingly Now you have wall styles including visual representation of the fire rating, that can be turned off where desired. Within viewports, you can override the text size settings if necessary, maybe use a duplicate viewport on top with only this class visible if you want to leave other texts at original size.

Best Methods for Extrude along path in multiple planes?

@line-weight - Looks like we posted about same time! Having horsed around with this some more, even with the marquee selection working, the NURBS Curves can become misshapen and require some serious vertex by vertex edits requiring a working plane or view changes. Can be done after getting the hang of it, but sheesh, what a pain! So, maybe a hybrid approach? Instead of @digitalcarbon's hardware store full of fixtures, maybe just a few path bends are needed? or make them on the fly? Start with an arc or poly of correct radius and arc length. Convert to NURBS. Snap it to end of a straight and 3d Rotate as needed to point at next station. When the run is complete, select and compose, then EAP. Or? Gotta be a way to do this. -B

Best Methods for Extrude along path in multiple planes?

Um, sort of, SP3 fixed it? For NURBS Curves, marquee selection of multiple vertices is enabled again, but with a serious limitation. Except . . . If any of the vertices are changed (eg to corner) via the Reshape Tool>Change Vertex mode, then marquee select is not available anymore. If any vertices are changed and then all of them are changed again to original status, then the marquee select is able again. @HEengineering - is this consistent with your v2017 setup. Your screen capture video shows marquee select operating. What happens if you change one of the vertices to corner? Is there a bug submit on this? I will try to submit a separate thread and a bug submit over the next couple days. -B

Joining 3 walls with different styles

Yup. Needs to work vertically as well. This kind of thing is no good: (My current workaround for this is to stack several walls on top of each other, which makes a mess of top plan view. One of the reasons I don't use top/plan for anything except editing walls now)
