CL - B type link bars

Hey Justin, TY for taking the time. So I discovered screencasting...lol. Went to make my first video to share, then dollars to donuts I was able to rotate as I recorded. Now my remaining issue seems to be establishing the linkbar as a structural connection. Linked below is my video to illustrate that. Any guidance? https://www.dropbox.com/s/6v7lqilx5y41ztr/2019-05-24 12-53-22.mp4?dl=0

    Fundamentals 2017 exporting pdf

Thank you. I have no old workspaces. I had no ideal this basic function was not included in Fundamentals 2017, as I was told by VW sales, "it will do all you need". Very disappointed!
  4. I am having a similar issue. I've been using Vectorworks for less than a week now. Long time AutoCAD user. Sometimes my drawing entirely disappears and this pink square pops up in its place. The pink square has a dashed border and a slightly darker pink color inside. Often a red vertical line appears at the same time. Neither the square nor the red line seem to be selectable. "Undo" doesn't seem to have any effect. Panning and zooming make the pink square move about the screen, but my drawing doesn't seem to be there. Zoomed all the way out, I can create a selection marquee, but nothing gets selected. All of my layers and classes are set to visible. This comment thread seemed to state that this might be a 3D view, but I'm not familiar with 3D operations yet. When I close the program and restart it, the pink square and red line disappear and I'm back to normal, but I keep losing all of my work. I'm using Vectorworks 2019 SP3 on a Windows machine. If someone could tell me what I'm doing to make this pink square appear and how to avoid making it appear in the future, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Light Instrument Data Appearing in Different Places

I've been playing with this some more, and I'm very confused now. My thinking is that I need to "open up" the stock symbol, add the lens (and a graphic I created to differentiate it), and then "close it back up" and have it be a lighting device not just a symbol. So far my attempts at various un-grouping and, record detaching and reattaching, have failed. But I'm going to keep at it, and may just have to resort to typing all the data in from scratch. I'm still interested in any and all advice. Cheers.

Imported DWG files very slow in vw

@Ewaryst I’ve dug around in the DWG and I have narrowed down a few different items that should help along with some additional notes: 1) When importing the DWG, go into the advanced options of the DWG import > Conversion > and set it to import 2D only (nothing seems to be 3D?) and set the conversion resolution to low. This seems to help out a lot and I can’t really tell a difference in the geometry so far. 2) Make sure Unified View is turned on (View > Unified View should be checked). This helps with redraw speeds. 3) The majority of the slowness seems to be coming from the class called “TDG_podkład”. From looking around on this class, there is a large symbol and the main slowness is coming from this geometry along the exterior wall. This looks like it is duplicated at least 50 times around the drawing, and each instance is ~2,600 objects. Just this detailing is probably accounting for about half of the overall objects. Once adjusting the above items, the file seems to be working at a workable and standard speed in my testing so far. A few quick notes to expand on this: This file in general is importing over 800,000 objects. This is a lot of information that is required to redraw when zooming and entering/exiting editing modes. If the kind of geometry above was placed in symbols, it would help some with the file size differences. Due to compression and general information saved in the files, DWGs tend to be significantly smaller than their VWX comparison. Seeing a 5x-10x file size jump isn’t rare in my experience. A lot of this has to do with differences in how we draft information. In this DWG that includes 800,000+ objects, we could get a very similar drawing in Vectorworks with significantly less objects. If the geometry in this DWG was classed / layered a bit more, it would ideally be very easy to turn off this complex line work; however, based on how it is drawn, we would need to do quick a bit of work drafting over each one and then deleting the complex line work (unless we can just turn it off). If it is okay with you, I would like to forward this DWG along to our Engineering Team. In this specific case, I don’t think we are looking at a bug per say, but we are looking at a good example of ways we could better handle imports and speed. I opened this file in AutoCAD and it seems to zoom around without any noticeable delay. It would be interesting if Engineering could find any ways of speeding up this kind of workflow.

Best way to clean op imported 3D Objects?

@Phileas You may be able to select the connected 3D polygons and convert them to a Mesh. Once you have a Mesh object, you can use the Simplify Mesh command to clean it up and make it less complex.

    Snap Point Hierarchy

@Jackmill1 We do have Master Snap points to help prioritize what is snapped to. This can help when you have a bunch of snap points in a small area. Here is an article with more information: http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2019/eng/index.htm#t=VW2019_Guide%2FBasic2%2FObject_Snapping.htm&rhsearch=master snap&rhhlterm=master snap&rhsyns= Hope this helps!
  12. The seminars are not discounted; they have $ associated. We have received such good feedback after our first session, that I'm extending the discount for the next two sessions June 7th and June 27th using the same discount code at check-out VISIONROCKS. Registration link: HERE I hope that helps. Have a great weekend! Juan

    Grid Lines

@fergus I have an older Wish list item you can find here if you'd like to vote it up! Further down the thread I outline what we do to create a 3D Symbol with classes to get a (somewhat) better result than what the tool allows

Older versions of VW on older OSX

Thanks @ASagatovVW . I have been able to open Vectorworks 12 running on my OS 10.6.8 MacBook, this allows me to back save files to Vectorworks 10. In the opposite direction I have been able to import some old Mini Cad files by opening them in VW12, then opening successive iterations of VW to bring these files "back to life". I suspect that I'm going to have to abandon much of this if I update this machine to a newer OS.

    Viewport doesn't show all elements

Hello, Alex Thanks for your advice have been a great help for me, I have updated my RAM memory to 16 GB since the requirements for this project are 16-32GB. Now I can work better, I have been able to create a 2 viewport in 1, the first a Section viewport in OpenGL for the buildings cut, and the 2nd for the environment in 2D plan view. The only issue a see now is the reference files may lose quality maybe because they also have other viewports attached, or for the scale. Here I sent the master plan. macOS Mojave (10.14) Compatibility

And also Network issues with your server. SMB or AFP and the naming of shared folders on the networked drive can also cause you beachballs.
  18. SVA Architects

    macOS Mojave (10.14) Compatibility

VW 2019 and Mojave need better graphics and CPU. Beach ball is mainly graphics card related. Close all other windows including Safari, Preview and Mail. Try running no other apps at all apart from VW and it will be somewhat better until you upgrade the Mac

@Cadplan Architecture, best I can do is submit a bug report and mark it "Priority." I've been told that if users submit bugs it helps to bump them up the list???

window sill and glazing bar glitches

I've tried various settings of the sill, you can get it to extend correctly as yours shows in the wall but if you pull it out then it all goes to pot no matter what you do. It's almost as if there is some association between the sill and the wall. Can we get this looked at as a priority please because after so many pricey upgrades to have something so basic still not working is not good?

Position Summary / Minimum Circuits needed

You're right - Lightwright calculates circuit needs based on the dimmer assigned to each light. With today's proliferation of LEDs, dimmer doubling, and other things that make it all complicated, it is usually more complicated than what you're looking for. No doubt Vectorworks has a better way of doing what you need, though I don't know how it calculates the circuit totals without dimmer numbers.

    Curtain Wall Tool

You can make one"Horizontal" CW to have only a single field over the whole length, while the "Vertical" CW having only 1 top and 1 bottom bar. De/activate top/bottom/side bars for each CW accordingly to not get duplicate geometry. As long as it is a single field, the horizontal bars will not get interrupted.

    macOS Mojave (10.14) Compatibility

sane set up, I am getting beach balls when selecting drawing label in annotations, also anytime I touch some of the parametric objects like table with chairs getting it to, sometimes I return to viewport and info box is still showing table as seated object. But its not consistent, still trying to figure out what causes it.
