Luc Prairie
Does the new Mac Book Pro 13'' is strong enough to support VW 2022? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I run VW 2022 on my M1 Mac Mini 16 GB memory. So yes. But it lags for me with large files pretty quickly as soon as memory pressure in Activity Monitor rises. (My projects are mainly based on larger IFC or RVT imports) I would not go with less than 64 GB memory again for my next Mac. The max memory option for base M2 is so far 24 GB, not that much either. And if you max out memory and rise SSD size (to not get the slow single SSD) you will easily come near the price of the 14" M1 Pro MBP model. Which has some nice extra features, better monitor and such .... Something to consider. Or maybe you can wait and save some more for the rumored M2/M2 Pro Mac Mini or coming M2 Pro/Max MBPs. But for moderate project sizes, the M2 MBP should work pretty well. Quote Link to comment

At least i hope so... Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I am not really sure what it is ! As these Projects do not really run that much better on the unlimited PC either. This is for VW, Bricscad and C4D (but this is an outdated R21 version ) On PC these aren't snappy either but at least I can work. It could be Software issues on one hand (but all 3 Apps ?) or could be just problematic Projects (cannot change that) or general Apple ARM issue or special M1 hardware issue (overflowing too small GPU cache) And if there really is such a mentioned bottleneck in M1, I still do not know if it will be fixed in the M2s. Or even if just more memory would really help. Maybe it is just a mixture of everything. But I also hope for a simple magic wonder in VW 2023 .... 1 Quote Link to comment
zoomer
When the M1 Mini was new I was so happy at first that I can open even my largest Projects. They need some time to load but view navigation is fluid. Just when I do some work, change visibilities, do selections, go into edit modes, memory pressure gets higher and it starts to lag. But 2D Software like Lightroom, Final Cut, Browsers or sound Editing Software does not seem to have problems with swapping memory. Everything gets a little bit slower when you access or reactivate things from SSD swap memory. There was never much speed difference between a 8 GB Macbook Air or a 16 GB Mac Mini. 7 hours ago, Heblon said: because the overall M1 experience in Vectorworks is overwhelming Exactly. For moderate to standard VW projects M1 was always super snappy. Quote Link to comment
