Sam Thomas
Hi, I am trying to build a structure out of lighting pipe, connected together with swivel clamps. I am having trouble getting the clamp to attach to the lighting pipe. Has anybody got any advice/tips they can share on a way to build this? Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted June 23, 2022 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted June 23, 2022 You can use insert connection (as symbol) or you can attach the truss record to the clips. Quote Link to comment
Oaktown
@TomWhiteLight I'm testing your file(s) with VW2023 and here is what I'm getting when I insert a connection (hoist up or hoist down) so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted September 26, 2022 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 26, 2022 It looks like you might be using the hoist mode of the insert connection tool. You should be using 'Place rigging object on top'. Quote Link to comment
Oaktown
Thank you @TomWhiteLight. That was indeed the issue and I think I'm now able to make it work truss to truss and truss to pipe. Quote Link to comment
Stig Runar
What do you do if you need to connect it on the side of the truss? Vertical pipe hanging down from a truss with two swivelclamps, attach lights and you want all this information in the braceworks calculation. Quote Link to comment

Unfortunatly, becuase clamps do not offer ratings against the pipe itself slipping out of the clamp, Braceworks cannot offer reliable calculations. Quote Link to comment
ticorules
Hello. How do I use this VWX file and method on mine? My trusses are at a 45 degree angle though. Quote Link to comment
Peter Telleman
@TomWhiteLight Hi Tom, Late to this post, but I'm with this same issue now. I have drawn Doughty clamps to use, and have set offset to the distance between the clamps. When I use the connection tool, the pipe does what it is suppose to do, but the symbol containing the two clamps doesn't show up (except in the resource manager). I'm probably doing something silly wrong? Peter doughty as connection test.vwx Edited January 13 by Peter Telleman Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted February 17 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 17 Hi Peter. I was able to get this to work. You need to check 'Show Symbol' in the OIP. The symbol only has 2d geometry so will bot show in a top plan view. If you want it in a top plan view make it hybrid. Quote Link to comment

Peter Telleman
@TomWhiteLight Hi Tom, that's remarkably easy, thanks for that. I of course have two follow up questions, the symbol doesn't appear on the right spot, how do I set it up so that both tubes are in the camp ( Does the offset need to be set to the distance between the two openings in the clamps?) And my second question would be, this way is showing the clamps symbol instead of the normal truss cross symbol, does that show up in a worksheet for the count? Or do I need to put in separate clamps to do that? I obviously do realise that with using the symbol it would be per two clamps. best regards, Peter Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted February 18 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 18 how do I set it up so that both tubes are in the camp ( Does the offset need to be set to the distance between the two openings in the clamps?) So you need to edit the 3d components of the symbol offset them in here, you might need multiple symbols for different offsets. this way is showing the clamps symbol instead of the normal truss cross symbol, Correct If each of your clamps are symbols you could create a worksheet that lists the quantity of that symbol type on the drawing. On the worksheet criteria be sure to check the check box PIO's 1 Quote Link to comment
