Alex Talbot
I'm attempting to draw the raked edge/seating section of a circular/oval arena, and have run into trouble getting the surface to make a clean extrude with the Vectorworks 3D model toolset. The top surface in the attached image is a drawn NURBS curve that has been converted into a solid, and the bottom piece is a NURBS curve converted into a 2D Polygon. Both objects are able to extrude, but I haven't found a clean way to combine/extrude them both to replicate the 3D object I'm trying to draw. Is there a VWX tool I'm missing that can do this easily? I've already tried multiple different 'subtract/add solid' methods, and haven't achieved what I'm going for. Edited June 13, 2022 by Alex Talbot Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Are you trying to create an extrude with a sloped/curved top surface? If both your top and bottom object were NURBS curves you could connect between them and create a solid using the Loft Surfaces Tool. Your reference is a little different than what you're describing. It's a series of stepped slabs. If that's more what you'd like to create, I would draw the stepped side section, extrude it into a rectangular step unit and then slice the sides off at an angle using the Split Tool. EAlexander
Kevin is right - arena seating is stepped with usually a 12-18" rise for sightlines. Take a look at my Extrude along Path video - at the 26:40 mark I demonstrate how to build arena seating with Extrude along Path. Edited June 14, 2022 by EAlexander 3 Quote Link to comment
