Bruce Kieffer
I realize one way to rotate around a line would be to set the working plane to the line. Is there any other way to do this? Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I tried defining a working plane on a line. It does not work. Quote Link to comment
halfcoupler
I suppose rotating around a line in 2D is the same as mirroring ? 😉 If rotating an object in 3D around a line that lies somehere in space I would recommend to convert the line to nurbs. Then the working plane tool in planar mode automatically creates a plane perpendicular to the nurbs line. With this plane activated the rotation tool will rotate the object parallel to the working plane. (select working plane as active plane, select object, select rotation tool, click on the nurbs curve to set the rotation origin, click to set the startpoint of rotation, click to set the endpoint of rotation) HTH 🙂 Edited April 14, 2022 by halfcoupler 3 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Now that is nice. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I'm using the NURBS curve idea to set working planes. Every so often I get a working plane view that is upside down. Is there a way to adjust the working plane to flip it over? Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Yes if you select the Working Plane (click on one of the coloured axes) you'll get interactive coloured handles that appear allowing you to manually rotate the Working Plane any way you want Quote Link to comment
halfcoupler
You can also use the menue Modify/Working Plane options Quote Link to comment

Thanks, but I can't figure out how @Tom W.'s way works? I can select the working plane, but I don't get any arrows to move? This is what I see: Edited April 21, 2022 by Bruce Kieffer Quote Link to comment
Popular Post Pat Stanford
Turn on Show 3D Axis in the Grid Settings. Double Click on the Grid snap to open it. You will then get the grid handled Tom was talking about. Grab a colored dot (handle) and it will allow you to rotate the working plane around the axis of the same color. 5 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
That's why! Thanks @PatStanford Quote Link to comment
halfcoupler
oh, completely new to me, never knew that axes can be disabled. 😃 Quote Link to comment
