EvelyneB
Hello! I'm trying to make a pad with retaining edge, but when I apply it to the terrain model, the topography gets weirdly jagged all over the model, even in areas nowhere near the pad. Photos below show the terrain before the pad is applied, then the messed-up terrain afterwards. A file that contains only the terrain and pad is also attached. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks. Ducros_terrain only.vwx Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Your 3D poly source data has somehow been duplicated + applied as Site Modifiers: Delete these + the model looks correct: The 3D poly source data has too many vertices: use the 'Simplify Polys...' command to reduce the number of vertices + create a lighter site model These polys are also on the Site-DTM-Modifier class which they don't need to be + may be connected to them ending up as modifiers in the site model...? 1 Quote Link to comment
EvelyneB
Thank you @Tom W.! I deleted the duplicate polys. Is there a way to simplify the poly lines that were used to generate the terrain model with an existing terrain, or do I need to start over from the original geometry? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
If DTM was generated from a Mesh already, I think there were ways to create and export contours from a VW DTM, which you could extract or ungroup - to simply the 3D Polygons, to re-create a more simplified DTM again. Tom W.
Click on the 'Recreate from Source Data' button in OIP to access the 3D polys then select all + run the simplify polys command 2 Quote Link to comment
EvelyneB
Thanks again! That did the trick for simplifying the terrain geometry. Now I have one more challenge: the site modifier is set to "pad with retaining edge", but the result doesn't appear to have a retaining edge, instead it slopes softly (see image). I updated the terrain model and checking settings on the terrain and modifier, but can't figure out how to sharpen that retaining edge. Any suggestions? VWX 2021 SP5 Architect Quote Link to comment

VWX 2021 SP5 Architect your pad retaining edge did not appear to be set correctly in your previous file. It had multiple verticies above and below the level of the pad elevation, hence what you are seeing I suspect. One strategy to use….Draw the pad where you want it, draw a grade limit around it, modify the upslope retaining handles to the desired elevation and let the software determine the downslope grades based on your limits. 2 Quote Link to comment
