MaltbyDesign
I often use the Create Roof tool to quickly create shed roofs, done by converting 3 of the 4 sides to gable ends and the low side of the roof remaining an eave. Inserting a fascia will only add a fascia board to roof edges that remain an eave. Any edges of the roof that have been converted to a gable end will not receive a fascia board. This seem like the most basic of flaws in the software, particularly when trying to quickly model a design idea. Am I missing something? I don't think this should be a difficult task. Guest Wes Gardner
@MaltbyDesign yes, the Roof tool needs some love...much of the fascia/eave just doesn't work the way it should Wes Quote Link to comment
techdef
My new trick has been a "fascia" Wall, ie: a wall that's 1x14 with a single component set to something like Component_Trim_Paint. Draw that wall around the perimeter of your roof. Use the wall height handles to snap to the actual roof peaks & ridges. Its super easy and gratifying compared to the default tools. 4 Quote Link to comment
DuncanR
You could also do your fascias as an extrude along a path. That way you can have a standard library of profiles for use. We use this approach for almost all fascia/soffit arrangements as the built in tool just doesn't do what we want it to. 1 Quote Link to comment
MaltbyDesign
Thanks for the alternate approaches. I just wish that the built in tools worked as expected without having to find workarounds. Quote Link to comment
MaltbyDesign
@techdefwould you mind sharing a screenshot of your Insertion Options in the edit wall style dialogue box? I've got the wall as fascia part but can't get the wall to follow the top and bottom of the sloped roof. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
techdef
@MaltbyDesign, sorry if that wasnt totally clear. Use the Reshape tool to move the top & bottom up/down after insertion. In a 3d view you can grab handles at the ends of the walls at top & bottom to adjust them / snap to roof or (whatever) object. 1 Quote Link to comment
MaltbyDesign
@techdefThanks for the clarification. I'll give that a try. I was trying to get the 'fascia' wall to follow the roof but that wasn't working. Quote Link to comment
Gilbert Osmond
Adding my voice to this request. It's illogical for the "Fascia..." option within a Roof PIO to work only on the eaves and not the gable ends. All the gable ended houses in my area have fascia boards that wrap around from eaves up to gables. 1 Quote Link to comment
