Fit Walls to Roof

Why is it that when I use this VW always seems to crash? I want to rake one wall to a mono pitch roof of 5dg. I like the tool, but would like it better if it would work all the time.

JC, Could you describe the exact steps that you took prior to the crash? Without more specific info it is imposible to diagnose what's going on. Thanks...

I have had problems with fit walls to roof tool and NNA have investigated the file and identified a bug.

Hope they issue a patch.

They have advised that changing the walls direction helps.

Typical square or rectangular box.

Insert windows and doors as anyone would.

Fit a mono pitch roof at 5dg on the walls with 750mm overhang. This is on the same layer and class.

Select the walls that I want to change and then "Fit Walls to Roof".

CRASH!

JC. The problem is that "This is on the same layer and class." Try this: create a new layer with all of the same settings as the original layer (eg: same z & delta z, same scale, same origin, etc). Follow all of your original steps, except, once you create the roof cut and paste it in place onto the new layer (or you can simply change its layer in the Object Info Palette). Now go the original layer and select all of your walls, then use the fit walls to roof command (selecting the new layer as the "fit to" layer in the dialog, of course). Should work fine. After that if you want you can move the roof back to its original layer. Hope that helps...
