matt stevens
What is the easiest way to create vaulted ceilings. Is there a how-to video somewhere? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
There's probably a better way, but… For simple vaulted ceilings I just use roof faces. For false framed vaults I use roof faces on a "ceiling" layer so it shows up in sections correctly and is out of the way the rest of the time. Using roof faces makes it easy to draw decorative beams using the roof framing command. If there are decorative trusses I just model them. For tray vaults I use a combination of floor objects and roof faces. If things really get crazy then I model it and turn it into an Auto Hybrid. Quote Link to comment
matt stevens
Thanks for the info. How would you do a barrel vault? How would you do a rib vault? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I love doing barrel vaults :-). I usually use a trick with the shell solid tool. Then make an auto hybrid. I can whip up a quick demo. Do you want to post a file with an example of what you are trying to do, or would any barrel/ribbed vault be helpful? 1 Quote Link to comment
Popular Post michaelk
@Benson Shaw will probably write up 3 better methods with annotations and step by step instructions. 🙂 But this is how I do it. Barrel vault.mp4 8 Quote Link to comment
matt stevens
Great demo. Thank you for that. Another question, what would the easiest way be to create decorative beam rafter tails. Thanks again 1 Quote Link to comment
michaelk
https://plugins.andreafacchinello.it/custombeams/ Worth every penny. If Andrea hadn't written this tool I would have to write it myself. Saves a huge amount of time every time I need corbels, rafter tails, trellises, etc. Quote Link to comment
David Atchison
I'm impressed. I'll have to watch and practice. This should come in handy at some point. I'm inspired to open VW and get back into the grove of it after a long break. 1 Quote Link to comment
