What is your understanding of an IfcZone?

 

Are IfcZones supposed to be unique?

 

For example, is it good practice to associate the same zone to two apartments (the apartment is a zone type) when the two apartments on different sides of the building?

I think IfcZone are useful to indicate spaces with equal characteristics, for example, areas most critical for contamination in a hospital or apartments of different price ranges in a new building.

it would appear to me, for example, that you use zones for a unique collection of spaces, such as a collection of rooms in an apartment, but you should not associate spaces in multiple apartments to the same zone, particularly when the apartments ie the zones, do not always share the same properties such as orientation.
