I have been trying to model a pitched roof that abuts a curved wall. I would like to use the dormer tool and therefore have to keep the roof as a roof object (as opposed to two roof faces). I have subtracted a solid (the same contour as the curved wall) from the roof but get one roof face plus the solid I was intending to be the subtracted solid when I render. If I enter the solid subtraction everythings there it just seems to get muddled. Is something corrupted or am I missing something. Any he
To "cut shapes out of" a roof, there's a hidden feature with roof objects that is very easy:
1. Make your roof using the Create Roof command and edit (adding gables, etc.) as desired;
2. Select the roof and choose Edit Group off the Organize menu. (Do this from a top/plan view).
3. Draw the shape(s) you want to be subtracted from the roof as 2D objects.
4. Exit Group. voila. The roof is still a roof and can have gables added, dormers, etc.
