Add 3D Object to Slab messes up textures in VW2022

Tom W.

Question

I am in VW2022 + when I add a 3D object to a Slab the concrete texture is replaced with a weird kind of gradient texture + nothing I do will bring the concrete texture back:

Until I delete the modifier:

If I export the file to VW2021 all is fine:

Before running the command:

After:

Anyone else noticed Add 3D Object to Slab behaving strangely in VW2022? @Matt Panzer could you look at the file for me? It's strange because in a blank VW2022 file I can get it to work so I assumed it was something particular to the project file that was causing it, but then when the project file is exported to VW2021 it works which suggests it's a VW2022 issue...

Thanks

Edit: Ok if I export the file to VW2021, perform the Add 3D Object to Slab operation there, then open the file back up again in VW2022 the concrete texture remains in place. Unless I enter the edit mode for the modifiers + exit again: then the concrete texture is replaced with the grey gradient once more

I think there are still issues with the new Texture by Face Feature.

I so often get unwanted explicit Texture Overrides after editing geometry.

Although there is no other Texture used than overall Texture by Class.

And I need to delete that manually.

(BTW the UI is not very self explanatory to find the option to delete unwanted overrides)

Maybe in your case it is also arbitrarily changing the Texture Mapping.

Hi @Tom W.,

Did you attach a Vectorworks file?  I don't see any.

No I didn't I was being polite + asking first 😁.

Here it is - stripped down version. Thanks!

If you try adding a 3D object to either slab they lose their concrete texture as described above. But if I create a new slab with the same style in a blank file it works fine...

If you enter the edit mode for the curved trough modifier then immediately exit again the texture is lost. It isn't just lost but replaced with a weird gradient effect.

So this is my working file in VW2022. I'm determined to carry on with VW2022 but can't do anything to the slab without messing it up. For example I also tried to increase the thickness (by style) + this had the same effect. I guess I could always try exporting it to VW2021 + doing it there again...

There are also the viewports on the sheet layer to look at.

Thanks

Thanks @zoomer + @E|FA  I'll hang on + see what Matt says but yes does seem like bug rather than user error

Also @Matt Panzer I'm getting some unexpected things happening in my section VPs (in VW2022):

Thanks for looking at this for me

@Tom W.,

The line missing in the first section is a known issue but I'm not sure about the slab line not showing in the second section.

Could you please submit a bug via https://www.vectorworks.net/support/bugsubmit

I don't see the texture issue in 2022 SP1.1 (619242😞

I opened the file edited the slab modifier (moving it) and this is what it looks like:

Hmm I wonder why it's happening in my file then...

Look:

Yet in OIP it says:

And what I've just discovered is that if I click on Replace Style in the OIP to open the 'Slab Replacement' dialog then click Cancel without doing anything this somehow prompts the Slab to remember itself + the concrete texture comes back!

There's definitely something weird going on here but strange it's not happening to you in the same file + version of VW... Thanks for taking the time to look at it I guess I'll have to monitor the situation + see whether it happens in any other files.

Thanks for comments about the VPs I'll file a bug about the slab line disappearing

Strange indeed.  When the texture doesn't show, does rerendering in Shaded mode bring it back?  How about Renderworks modes?

Good thinking. But no, rerendering in Shaded or changing render mode has no effect. If I render in Renderworks the concrete texture displays correctly, but on returning to Shaded it's the grey gradient effect again. Until I 'pretend' to replace the style + then the texture miraculously reappears again...

Ah!  So it sounds like a Shaded mode render problem and not a texture problem.

If you wouldn't mind, could you submit a bug on that as well?  If you do, please include information about you computer and graphic card.
