BisbeeBlue
I've spent a good deal of time reading manuals, playing with tutorials and making multiple attempts, I cannot, however find a way to create a simple shed (pitched) roof that runs from a lower height wall up onto the side of a taller way. This is hardly an uncommon feature, but use of any of the create roof tools (or frame) seem to always show up as gabled. I've tried drawing a polygon over the walls and use create roof or fit roof get exceedingly odd results. I'll keep working on this, but some master with the right tip would be greatly appreciated. Kevin
Use the Roof Face command. AEC>Roof Face. If you have VW11 you can then use the Fit Walls to Roof command to shape the tops of walls to the roof you just created. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted November 3, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 3, 2004 Roof face is OK, but you can also draw a rectangle, create a roof, and make 3 of the 4 faces gables, then turn off the Gable Walls option. Quote Link to comment
Kevin
Ok Robert, if I was VP of Integrated Products at NNA, I could do that too. All kidding aside, that is one neat trick. Is that documented? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted November 3, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 3, 2004 No, but in the language of some CYA notes I used to use, it's "reasonably inferable". ;-) Quote Link to comment
LarryAZ
Where is the "Create Gable End Walls" checkbox located? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Larry, click on any of the "handles" of your roof object (each face of the roof has one) and a dialog will appear. That is where the checkbox is. :-) Quote Link to comment
Kevin
Actually the "Create Gable End Walls" checkbox is located in the OIP, and not in the Edit Roof Settings dialog box. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
OOPS, My mistake! Quote Link to comment

david p
Thanks Robert- I wish we would upgrade to Architect! d Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted November 13, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 13, 2004 Fit Walls to Roof is an Architect-only command that will shape the tops (and bottoms) of walls to any 3D geometry, not just walls. Quote Link to comment
