unable to open windows VW files in VW 2022 on Mac M1

bought a Mac M1 when I saw that VW 2022 optimised for it

 

but I can't open any of my (windows) VW files, it won't recognise them

even new files created in VW 2022 on my PC are not recognised

 

and I have now discovered that Enscape isn't supported on a Mac - think I'll send it back

I haven't see any issues or differences between VW files from PC or Mac.

I open them on of both machines from time to time.

 

Could it be about access/write right problems with network storage ?

You could try to copy a file to desktop and check if that would work.

 

Enscape is (yet) Windows only.

But according to their recent job listings, it is not unikely that there

will be a Mac version at one point.

Actually found the problem, I was trying to open files that had synced to the Mac via Qsync from our NAS drive. For some reason they aren't compatible. Also jpeg images that came down thru Qsync wouldn't open. But when I transferred files with a USB they worked fine. 

However I'm returning it, lack of Enscape a deal breaker and also didn't find it any faster than my windows PC, actually slower for basic things like opening apps.

Looks like adding also DirectX and more multi threading made also VW for Windows faster.

But for me for M1 VW 2022 is clearly faster and better.

 

M1 Mini is a pretty low end device for a low price.

I think it is astonishing that it is as least as snappy than my Ryzen PC with much

more GPU power and RAM. As long as the project does not get too crowded.

And I see s few things still lagging a bit, like Mesh Tree Symbols (?) or too much

geometry. But for my typical projects it is great.

 

Until Enscape (which I would prefer) releases a native Apple ARM/Metal App,

I will go on with Twinmotion.

Not the same visual RT quality (until today!) but mostly enough for my purposes

and some advantages in spreading Entourage objects.
