VW2021 - Rotated sheet layer viewports balloon PDF size?

Kevin McAllister

Question

Hello,

This afternoon I was asked by a client to rotate a ground plan so its orientation was different on the drawing sheet. The easiest way to do this was to rotate the sheet layer viewport. When I did the resulting PDF file ballooned in size. The original PDF with the non-rotated sheet layer viewport was 17.7mb. The new PDF with the rotated sheet layer viewport is 45.6mb. Is this normal? Has anyone else tracked this issue?

(Still working in VW2021 for production work.)

Thanks,

Kevin

Ok, so after some testing with various existing files, this is easily reproducible. If I take an existing top/plan (wireframe) sheet layer viewport and rotate it, the resulting pdf will always be bigger than one created with the unrotated viewport. This seems very weird to me. I could see this being the case if I had a rendered viewport, but I'm not sure why rotating a wireframe viewport would change the size of a pdf in any significant way.

Hopefully someone from VW will be able to explain why this happens.
