I logged into Service Select and noticed that VW2022 serial numbers are up. I'm now downloading what appears to be VW2022 SP0 according to the download filename.....

Kevin

I searched my Service Select Portal since a few days now.

Yesterday evening finally my VW 2022 arrived and download

options changed but download was not allowed.

So I downloaded my VW 22 serial number but an hour later it

disappeared again and with Downloads was replaced by

VW 2021.

Together with why another Tuesday Teaser Video and Apples

Tuesday Event - I really feared that it will take another week ...

Thank god its in my Downloads Folder now ....

It's amazing how many little things have been changed.

A favourite of mine so far

"To reduce unnecessary complexity, portions of Vectorworks that enable outdated 2D workflows have been deprecated. Objects can no longer be set to the screen plane, and drawings now always have a “unified” view, with the same view, lighting options, render mode, and Renderworks background for all design layers. Legacy 2D features can still be used in existing files that contain them, and they can be enabled on new files as a document preference."

Hooray! I am a big fan of reducing unnecessary complexity!

Just going through the help file. It's amazing how many little things have been changed. My favorite so far:

Repeating commands

Now you can easily reuse commands by selecting Repeat [last command] and Recent Commands

For anyone that can't or don't want to install VW2022, you can find the help file with the complete changelog here

Thanks for this.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating... but looking at this list, it looks like one of the more promising updates of recent years.

If all the things listed actually work, and if a whole load of new bugs aren't introduced, then I will be pleased.

So...does this mean that we are still using OpenGL, and it's just been renamed, or does it mean that we (at least on mac) have moved to Metal instead, which I thought was the plan?|

AFAIK

OpenGL went to Metal for Macs and DirectX for PC

Not sure if I asked you already if your geometry is georeferenced or far from origin ?

And for me there is also much noise in OpenGL since latest OpenGL, or better VGM,

enhancements, since VW 2021. I find the constant changes to simplify or hide geometry far away

a bit disturbing.

If your File is centered, I think your flickering is less likely because of Metal implementation

but the characteristic of VGM itself.

Yes Metal on macOS and DirectX on Windows.  The name of the render mode was changed since we are not using OpenGL anymore.

I specially want to know how VW 2022 (native Apple M1) runs under macOS now!

Does anybody feel a difference between 2021 with Rosetta and 2022.

… for my important because i want to buy a new M1X Macbook later this year.

Greetings

Tobi

Trust me, it changes a lot. Performance, boot time, big files.

Well I see M1 RAM usage more realistic in Activity Monitor.

Seems like I can open larger Projects now.

(about 260 MB VWX, plain Geometry, lots of Symbols, most of them contain

unnecessarily tessellated Mesh geometry ...)

View is snappy but the (everytime new) View Caching when switching

Layer Visibilities takes unrealistically long still though.

I think that is because of the limited 16 GB shared RAM.

Some quick experiments done on the same file in each version of VW. Mac mini M1 16GB like @zoomer also has.

VW2021 // VW2022

Open Vectorworks

40 seconds // 18 seconds

Update several viewports, mixture of hidden line & OpenGL/shaded:

18 seconds // 13 seconds

Open large file (1.17GB) into sheet layer view:

22 seconds // 28 seconds

Then go from sheet layer to openGL/shaded 3d view of design layers, by activating a saved view:

10 seconds // 22 seconds:

Update renderworks viewport

2m31 // 1m50  (according to VW progress bar)

2m50 // 2m13 (according to my stopwatch since pressing update button)

NB some things there where VW2022 is faster, but also some where it's slower!

Haven't tried it in 'real world' use at all yet so can't really comment on whether it "feels" faster or not.
