Copy from Basepoint

cwojo23

Question

Requesting a duplicate of a much missed AutoCAD feature, Copy with Basepoint - when copying would choose a point in the FROM to be then selected in TO drawing to maintain alignment of items. This would also be useful to me for copying multiple items at same distances without have to use Duplicate Array.

Sort of, I didn't know that function so just watched an example of it, the "Paste in Place" still depends that coordinates are exactly setup the same between files. Copy with Basepoint would allow the user to pre select the From and then the To for copy points. Which is more versatile for copying within a document also.

Well, as I imagine what you describe, copying, pasting in place, and then using the move command would be virtually the same number of clicks.

I'd still put in a VE for the functionality.

Not really available in VW.

Paste in place does the opposite of what you want.

It places the duplicate exactly at the same coordinates as the original.

(Which is what I prefer and need 99% of time,

maybe plus controlled movement))

VW has a "soft" Copy with Basepoint.

Use standard Paste, without modifier key.

This will paste at a kind of random position !?

But when you click with your cursor at a certain point - before you paste,

VW will past the object to this point.

Well, I said "soft" PwBP, as VW unfortunately misses the "From" and will just

always use the Geometric Center only as the "From".

But this way you could at least define the "To" location.

VW's Move/Copy by Points Tool is a bit strange either.

You can set multiple Copies - if you know the needed count.

But when you just set it to 1 Copy, repeating always means the need to

redefine the "From" again each time !

Not just add another target click like other CAD's Copy Tools work.
