Chris T
I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS ON THE BEST WAY TO SHOW THE FOLLOWING: 1. CREATING A TAPERING WALL OR ONLY THE FRONT OF A COLUMN WITH THE BACK STRAIGHT. 2. CREATE A CURVED ROOF EAVE ANY HELP AND SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted August 29, 2003 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 29, 2003 1. Use an extrusion for the tapered wall. In VW Architect, there is a pilaster which is only the front half of a column. 2. Use a series of short segments to approximate the curve. Quote Link to comment
P Retondo
Chris, you probably know about multiple extrusion for tapering objects. I would try using a nurbs / extrude along path for the curving eave. For the path, you can create a 3d polygon that basically traces the eave line. Robert - is there any reason not to use this approach? I've tried the polygon / "short segments" approach in the past for curving eaves, but it would be nice to get some more precise geometry and better 3d rendering using nurbs. The big question is whether this creates a huge number of calculations for rendering and other tasks. I know that when I take a nurbs extrusion and cut a 3d section from it I get an enormous number of 3D polygons. [ 09-01-2003, 03:49 PM: Message edited by: P Retondo ] Quote Link to comment
Chris T
THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTROL THE PILASTER OR COLUMN SIZE. CAN'T DO A COLUMN 8X20" I USE THE EXTRUSION TO DO THE COLUMNS AND ROOF. I MADE A 2D POLYGON SECTION OF THE WALL AND CURVED ROOF THEN PUT THE LAYER INTO A FRONT VIEW AND EXTRUDES THE SECTION TO THE LENGTH. LOOKS GREAT RENDERED BUT NOT IN PLAN. YOU CAN CREATE HOW YOU WOULD WANT IT TO LOOK IN 2D PLAN BY MAKING A SYMBOL WITH THE 3D EXTRUSION. IT WOULD BE NICE IF VWA CAN TAPER WALLS AND HAVE RECTANGLE COLUMNS Quote Link to comment
