Symbols not dropping

Hey Y'all,

I'm a Sound Design student using VW for school and something isn't working. 

 

Problem: I was working on a rock concert mock up and I was placing in microphones, then suddenly VW simply wouldn't place symbols anymore. I would just give me a message in the lower right that said "A symbol needs to be selected." I already restarted the program, I sent my file to my instructor and they could place symbols just fine, and I'm currently in the process of reinstalling VW. 

 

Has anyone had this problem before or have any clues on why its happening?

Make sure you have all the classes associated with the symbol set to visible.

 

… and class options set to Show/Snap/Modify Others

@michaelk Thank you, but thats not the problem, The Symbol Insertion Tool wont seem to select an object at all.

That's a new one 🙂. Have you tried double clicking on a symbol in the resource manager?  It should invoke the symbol insertion tool and make that symbol active.

@michaelk I've figured it out. Somehow the Symbol insertion tool itself was put into "symbol pick up mode" (not sure what thats for or how it got there) and I put it back into "Standard insertion mode" and it's back to normal.

That will do it.  You probably got into that mode by clicking the U key while the symbol insertion tool was active.  Make any tool active and click the U key and watch the mode bar.  It will cycle through the first group of modes.  The I key will cycle the second, the O key the third and so on up to [.
