ErichR
Maybe this question should be in the Landmark section, but VWA seems to have what we need to do conceptual site modeling (according to the VWA manual). It is possible to easily get to the stage where site contours are created (sort of like the old chip board physical model). The problem is, after hours of experimenting, I can't fathom how to make the Site Model commands approximate what's shown in the manual. Is there a toutorial somewhere that shows how? tmadsign
An easy option is to draw contours and convert them to FLOORS and move them to their desired elevation. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted May 31, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted May 31, 2002 To make a "chipboard" style site model, simply choose the Model>Sitework>View Options command and check the "extruded contours" option in the right side of the dialog. Deselect the "triangles" option also. Quote Link to comment
ErichR
No problem making a chipboard-type site model. How about converting it to mesh? Quote Link to comment

I am a beginner and I have had real troubles getting VW9.5 to recognise data to generate a site model. I am using the grid method to import the data - all goes well until I open the site model box and everything is greyed out. Any suggestions. Thanks Quote Link to comment
ErichR
Guess no one's listening. One can get to the chipboard-style easily. How about good instructions or a method to get beyond that? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted September 17, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 17, 2002 The standard options are: -Square grid -Triangulated data ("TIN") -3D Contours -Extruded contours ("Chipboard") The TIN can be expressed as a solid mesh, so that it can be used in solid subtractions. All these options are described in the manual. Quote Link to comment
ErichR
As stated before, the manual doesn't work for me. Maybe it does for others. It would be interesting to know how others rate the site modelling features ease of use: good, bad or indifferent. Quote Link to comment
Thom
Site modeling is at best difficult. There needs to be a very detailed tutorial for this module. Probably the most important part of the program for showing clients what is being proposed, but most avoided because of difficultly of use. Quote Link to comment
Kristen
I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but to change the mode of the model, go to Model>Sitework>View Options. Select which symbol you want to change the settings of (probably you want to "Use Existing Symbol": Existing DTM). You'll get the window which gives you the different 2D and 3D options.
