Window Schedule - glazing area

Recommended Posts

Building a window schedule and net glazed area for all the windows is returning a value that is far smaller than logically expected.

Does anyone know the proper formula for reporting this information?

thanks

It looks like window.NetGlazedArea is returning the value in M2 while Window.NGA2 is returning the area in drawing area units.

@Pat Stanford Additionally, Window.NGA2 is returning a value that is less than the actual design of the window.  Not sure what 'Window'.'ClearArea' is, but it is sometimes larger than NGA2, sometimes smaller than NGA2.  Is there a good reference for these attributes of different object types hidden away somewhere?

Interesting. I tried it and using a simple window with a single pane, I got exactly the same area by drawing a rectangle over the glazing as was reported by NGA2.

No good reference that I know of to what the fields actually mean. Kind of just trial and error. I think there have been several previous threads about glazing area. Perhaps search and see if you can find something.

Good luck.

The proper field for both Doors and Windows is NGA2. This is defined as an Area parameter and should you the value in the defined area unit for your document.

Keep in mind that value calculated for Net Glazed Area is the area of the glass/glazing. This does not include the sash and jamb that surround the glass. If you have several panes of glass NGA2 accumulates all pieces of glass.

The NGA (for door) and NetGlazedArea (for window) field are outdated. They were from before Area type parameters were available.

Thanks Judah.  It appears that NGA2 also ignores Muntins and acts as if they are just applied to a single pane of glass.

@Judah Warshaw thanks for the help.

I was using NGA2, but for some reason it was returning invalid values for some door glazing, even when considering the subtracton for non-glazed components.

Even after worksheet recalcs, open/close the program, etc.)

Now, inexplicably, it is working... Strange.
