EvelyneB
Hello, When I turn on the roof design layer in my model, the view clips bizarrely in an uncontrollable way, as shown in the images below The model is near the origin and still works fine in another view. The file is attached. Do you have any suggestions for how to fix this? Thanks! 2021-02-16 Mont Ham.vwx Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
Are you talking about a View from a Saved View or from a Camera View ? Beside, that looks/sounds so bizarre that I would think, the typical restart VW+macOS trick would likely help ... Quote Link to comment
0 EvelyneB
Hi @zoomer, It occurs in a saved view, camera view and viewport. I tried restarting vectorworks and rebooting my computer but the problem persists. Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
Hmmh, even more strange. But I see 2 strange lines in the second screen shot. Is Clip Cube activated ? (Because the Camera is outside the building for perspective/visibility reasons ?) And it is a Perspective View ? Quote Link to comment
0 michaelk
I think what you are seeing might be a "distance from origin problem". Maybe combined with layer scales being different? Your building is approximately 16654986' (approx 3,164 miles) from the origin. That can cause weirdness 🙂 Quote Link to comment
0 EvelyneB
@zoomer, It is a perspective view, and the clip cube is not activated (at least not intentionally!). I have no idea what those thin vertical lines are - they appear in all of my perspective views, with & without the camera being activated. @michaelk Is the origin the blue circle in the top/plan view (image attached)? If so, then the building is quite close. That being said, when I zoom to the extents of the drawing, it zooms way out like there's a mysterious an unseen something-or-other far to the left side. I can't seem to select it to figure out what it is or how to move it though... I checked and the floor and roof plans are both at the same scale. Thank you both for your help! Quote Link to comment
0 EvelyneB
Aha! I found the rogue element. It was a random piece of roof framing that ended up way off to the left. I've deleted it and now the problem is solved. No idea how it ended up there in the first place, but at least everything works now! Thanks. Quote Link to comment
0 michaelk
I just found it too. 🙂 I don't understand all the ins and outs of it, but beware of drawings that far from the origin. It can really mess up textures. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
And I even missed that she already attached the file and always wanted to ask for an upload. 😃 Quote Link to comment

I don't think the distance of the User Origin (the 0,0 point for the file: where the xyz axes are) from the drawing is an issue is it? In my files, based on the coordinate system I use, I'm typically 400 miles away from the User Origin so I guess 3000 miles is quite a long way - but does that matter in terms of how the file behaves? Or maybe it was the distance of the 'mysterious an unseen something-or-other' from the Internal Origin that was the issue rather than the less mysterious geometry in the screen shot. Question
EvelyneB
Hello,
When I turn on the roof design layer in my model, the view clips bizarrely in an uncontrollable way, as shown in the images below
The model is near the origin and still works fine in another view. The file is attached.
Do you have any suggestions for how to fix this?
Thanks!
