line-weight
If I buy a license for a certain version, does that allow me to run all previous versions too - or just the one that I've bought? For example if I were to buy a new 2021 license would it allow me to run 2020 and 2019 too? Quote Link to comment

You can keep your downloads and license numbers. I haven't experienced that VW would block old versions, but I never had more than current + 2 older Versions. Would need to boot my 2007 Mac Pro to see if VW 2015 is still running. And even when blocked, that should be more because of the total amount of activated installations that will block. I would ask your dealer/local partner. But why do you want to run an older VW, beside running older hardware that is not supported by recent VW versions. (Or when migrating causes slight changes in appearance or such ?) You can open your old projects and either migrate them for larger changes, or just open them to publish or looking at them, without saving/migrating when closing. Quote Link to comment
line-weight
Well, I'm currently using 2018, and I can also use 2017 and 2016 - but I did 'buy' each of them at some point (via VSS upgrades). Since 2018 I stopped VSS and now I'm looking at my options for going straight to 2021. For example I can do an upgrade... Or possibly for similar price buy 2021 'new' and then sell my old licence. Also... If I decide to hold out until 2022 that might make a difference. It would be good to know that whatever way I end up with a 2021 or 2022 licence, I could still open drawings in older versions. Just in case of any unexpected problems migrating large and important drawings by 3 versions in one go. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, difficult decision. 11 hours ago, line-weight said: Or possibly for similar price buy 2021 'new' Did this a few times with Cinema 4d 😄 The longer you wait, the more money you save. But as you are also on Mac, you may run into problems with older VW versions no installable on newer macOS or newer VW on older hardware. Basically, if you don't sell your old VW, you will be able to keep and run your old VWs. But if you buy or upgrade to VW 2022, I don't think it will be possible out of the box, to run a VW 2019. And I am not sure if VW is willing to help in such cases. 1 Quote Link to comment
line-weight
Yes, possibly I only need the old versions for a "transition period". Make sure everything transfers OK, then I can sell old licence. I am also hoping to switch to M1 macs quite soon - and then anything pre-VW2020 becomes redundant anyway. Quote Link to comment
