Spotlight Template not loading correctly

Benjamin Lishner

Question

Teaching Lighting Design using Vectorworks 2021 and have encountered a strange problem:

When I open Vectorworks and then open a new file with the Spotlight (Imperial) template, it doesn't load the Spotlight dropdown menu or the spotlight tool box or the event planning tool box. It does load the default Spotlight layers and all the default classes. It's like it only loads half of Spotlight, and not the parts we really need.

Interestingly, it loaded perfectly fine the first day of class but started doing this the subsequent class.

Some students who have their own laptops and copies of vectorworks have not encountered this problem.

I can go in and add the menus and toolboxes in but that is time consuming (especially to do every class period as the lab computers wipe everything between logins).

Is there an easy fix to this?

@Benjamin Lishner The Template does not contain the tools, the tools are controlled by the workspace.
From the Tools menu select Workspaces > Spotlight and that should bring back all the Spotlight tools and commands.

It's a little more complicated but you can contact Vectorworks support and work with your system administrator to set the default workspace to Spotlight.

The last used workspace is stored as a user setting. If the user accounts are being wiped this will remove the setting and Vectorworks will select the Designer(?) workspace by default because it needs to load a workspace.

Typically when a new user account is created, it created from a default user account setup by the admin.

This default account need to use the Spotlight workspace. The workspace may have been accidentally switched when someone was logged in as admin or the default user.

Your sys admin probably had to do a similar thing with the serial number so users did not need to enter the serial number and registration information each time the application was launched.
Vectorworks support should be able to give you exact details on where and what needs to be changed but you will need to be an administrator on the machine to make the changes with your setup.
