Giulio
Hello guys, I started using the subdivision tools and I think it is great! I have created a "simple" subdivision object (in green) with some waves and now I would like to section it every ie 100mm (like the brown one). I used to know how to do it in Rhino but I am sure it is possible in VW as well but I cannot find how! Any idea on how to do this? Quote Link to comment
Hans-Olav
Hi @Giulio Could you make a series of extrudes for the spacing and subtract them from the Subdivision? You would end up with a solid subtraction. Quote Link to comment
Giulio
hi Hans-Olav ! yes I did it previously but this new shape apparently is to complex (?) and VW doesn't allow me to do it again... Edited December 11, 2020 by Giulio Quote Link to comment
Gualterino
Hi Giulio if you to convert the Subdivision to a Mesh first, you should be able to as Hans-Olav stated. That is what I have done here. 3 Quote Link to comment

It worked!! now, is there a way to make the mash solid inside like in your picture? because at the moment it has only the outside skin and it is empty inside. Quote Link to comment
Gualterino
Hi Giulio, Could you post the subdivision, If you don't mind. I would like to see how that happened. Because when you subtract solid you should not have gotten the result shown. Quote Link to comment
Giulio
@Gualterino probably I did something wrong, I have never used subdivision object before 😅 Waves.vwx Quote Link to comment
Gualterino
Hi Giulio, The reason why you have those openings instead of a closed solid, is because your mesh is overlapping it's self in the corners. I would suggest breaking it up in two parts; use a a extruded polygon for the top section use subdivision for what's underneath. Then, you can convert the Sub to a mesh and do a solid add with the polygon. From this point everything should subtract as expected. Edited December 18, 2020 by Gualterino 2 Quote Link to comment
Francois Levy
I'm having a similar issue where the subdivision I have created is not solid, even if I convert to mesh or generic solid. Any suggestions? not_solid.vwx Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Convert it to a Mesh and then to a Generic Solid. 1 Quote Link to comment
