Veiwport Styles - Viewport Upgrades?

How far is the Veiwports Style work going?

Will it for instance do a bit of tidy up on how viewports are organised on the Object Info Palette so that the style information saved is also better organised?

Will Viewports get upgraded to true navigation objects finally adding an Active Class and Layer so people know were they should be drawing when they use a veiwport to navigate?

Will Viewport styles even make it to VW2024?

It hasn't even made it past "Active Research" since the roadmap was first released.

There is no sense of when the last time there has been an update.  We need a change log on the site.  I am very much hoping that it is woefully out of date.

Also - it is absolutely insane that this has not been implemented. I requested this 8 - EIGHT - years ago! Its been requested many a time since.  I would love a technical explanation on why this has been so difficult to implement. We have styles for the Chair and Table tool for goodness sake... 

 

@JuanP Is there any reason technical or political on why that this seemingly simple feature request has been sidelined for the better part of a decade?

 

It will be one of those features that we maybe finally will get - but nobody will be excited because it will be soooooo long coming.  Better late than never is still late.

Thanks for the update but that just doesn't seem promising for even 2024 edition inclusion.

With the new subscription model - they might be moving away from yearly releases.  Maybe it will be pushed out as part of 2023 SP.2.

They are a good start but I’d encourage you to keep pushing them forward functionally. We can’t yet have a viewport style that the only non style setting needed is which storey it applies to. 
 

There could also be integration with title locks maybe via sheet layer  names to automatically name drawings in the file

No worries, I will do it again, but none of these ideas should be news to the team. I should brush up on my VS skills and build an example of the interface.

Thanks @Matt Overton. It never hurts to submit additional enhancement requests even when a feature has just gone through a development cycle.

 

As I have learned since joining the team five years ago, A LOT goes into the planning and building of each feature and sometimes not every aspect of a feature can be included in the first version. Receiving feedback about additional abilities that would be useful is much appreciated.
