mMurrey
We have switched over to mostly annotating our plans using Data Tags. Problem is, I cannot get seem to get the Data Tag to work in section/elevation viewports. I would like to be able to do a workflow similar to top/plan viewports in which you can apply data tags in the viewport annotations. Anyone have any experience with this? Also, is there a way to scale data tags across multiple drawing scales? When I use the scale options, the leader marker does not change with the symbol and text. I've added a few screenshots for reference. Thanks, Matthew Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Nikolay Zhelyazkov Posted December 2, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 2, 2020 Hello @mMurrey, The Data Tags seems to work fine in Section Viewports in VW 2021. Which version of VW are you using? 2019? Best Regards, Nikolay Zhelyazkov Quote Link to comment
mMurrey
@Nikolay Zhelyazkov We are currently using 2020. Working with tech support we found a bug. You have to set the background distance to 'infinite' in order for the data tags to work. If you want to hide the background just create a class with no fill, no line. Hopefully they have fixed this in 2021. We are switching over as we start new projects. Kind regards, Matthew Murrey 1 Quote Link to comment

If you play around with different distances the Data Tag will start seeing the objects. Best Regards, Nikolay Zhelyazkov 1 Quote Link to comment
mMurrey
@Nikolay Zhelyazkov Thanks for the info! I'll give this a shot. Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
Additionally, if you use a Data Tag to insert Room Names based on Spaces in section view, be sure to have the space turned ON when you set the tag. You can then turn the space off. Wes Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
@Nikolay Zhelyazkov another thing I've found when using data tags in section viewports: I have a tag I use for labelling wall types + in top/plan I can click on the wall then position the label wherever I want it - up, down, left or right. Whereas when I use that tag in a section viewport, not only do I need to adjust the extents beyond cut plane to get the tag to pick up the wall in the first place but once I've done that I'm unable to adjust the position of the label: it's stuck in the vertical position as per the tag layout. I've had to make separate horizontal tags - one to the left + one to the right - for use in section viewports. So I in effect have one tag for use in top/plan + two additional ones for use in section VPs when you'd have expected the first tag would work everywhere. Are both these issues present in VW2021? I am using 2020 Thanks Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Nikolay Zhelyazkov Posted January 4, 2021 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 4, 2021 Hello @Tom W., There is a way to do this manually by setting of the Data Tag's rotation. That way you can use the same Data Tag style. Let me know if that gets the job done. Best Regards, Nikolay Zhelyazkov Quote Link to comment

I am using 2020 Thanks I have 2022 and still can't find a setting or know if I can use one room tag for all views. We always identify rooms in sections and doing that manually across dozens is not realistic and error prone. Any of the big guns have any guidance? 1 Quote Link to comment
Dylan
I've had success tagging rooms in section viewports. When I turn on the space class it's 2D, so inline with the floor and impossible to see and tag one at a time. My solution to getting them tagged is to grab the data tag tool from the Dims/Notes toolset and then select "All eligible objects" mode. It then tags all the spaces in the viewport and if there's one I don't need (a room behind the section) I delete the tag. Works well so far. Hopefully that helps somewhat @Scott Schwartz, AIA, - Dylan 1 Quote Link to comment
