idstudio
How do I import a dwg/dxf file to trace in Vectorworks?? I am able to import into a blank document, but I would like to use VA to set up all the pages, classes, etc. When I import dwg/dxf into a blank document, I am unable to use VA assistant. If I use VA assistant first, I am unable to import dxf/dwg. So, How do I use VA assistant w/ an imported file?? I only want to use this file as a template to trace. I appreciate your patience. Thanks, Roy Quote Link to comment
Spunkmeyer
Roy, Have you considered starting with the VA Setup Assistant, creating the format you need for the project, then creating a second blank file, importing the DXF/DWG into it, and then using copy/paste to transfer the info to the file created using Setup Assistant? idstudio
Thanks, that worked great. But, after creating the footings, slab, and exterior walls, some how the original floor plan is not visible. I am unable to bring it up to trace the interior walls. Before I pasted the file into the VA, I created a new Layer for the file, but even when activating the layer it is not visible. Any Ideas?? Quote Link to comment
Spunkmeyer
Roy, Usually situations like this are just a matter of the information being either hidden or not copied because of a layer visibility setting...I'll explain each: 1. Layer Visibility: In your DWG import file, make sure that your layer and class visibility options (under the Organize menu) are set to show/snap/modify others when you do the copy/paste routine. 2. Hidden items: It's also possible that the information is in the new file, but the class that it's in is turned off. Try turning on all your classes and see if it shows up. Class visibility can be changed from the Classes item in the Organize menu. (If you're not familiar with manipulating class visibility, the visibility options are covered on page 3-19 of the VectorWorks 8.5 manual.) I'd try #2 first, eliminate that as a possibility and then try #1. Quote Link to comment
